Alfa Romeo Fuel Drain

ABOUT

Filling up with Diesel in a Petrol Alfa Romeo is a fairly typical problem. And its remedy hinges on several different things. Assuming you want to know what to do to fix it then please read on.
Listed below are the main factors to to consider when determining whether or not to have your car drained:

  1. What amount of Diesel have you put into the Alfa Romeo, taking into account that the fuel tank capacity of the Alfa Romeo 147 is probably roughly 60 litres?
    1. A tiny quantity of Diesel, as little as 3 litres of Diesel in a Petrol 147 will quite often not really be a huge problem. Experience has shown us that quantities under 3 litres (roughly 5% of the entire fuel tank) is often capable of being completely diluted through entirely filling the tank with the right fuel.
It is extremely uncommon to encounter a car or truck going through problems because of below 5% incorrect fuel contamination. Be aware that it is very uncommon - in no way impossible to find. There are a few automobiles that will not endure any degree of fuel contamination in the slightest.
    2. Anywhere between 3 and 6 litres of Diesel in the Alfa Romeo (5 to 10%) is a 50/50 condition. Our practical experience has demonstrated that as many people get away with it as those who don't. Whenever trying to decide whether or not to risk it and simply fill it up recognise that it is much like wagering your car on black - you have got a 50/50 possibility of it working.
    3. Anything in excess of 6 litres of Diesel in a Petrol 147 should immediately be drained out since your likelihood of getting away with this quantity of contamination is in all likelihood lower than one in 50 - extremely long odds.
  2. Put Diesel in a Petrol Alfa Romeo and drove it: Have you noticed any kind of performance problems as a result of putting the bad fuel in the 147? If so, have it removed no matter the amount of Diesel or even the contamination ratio. Proceeding to run driving a car that is already beginning to suffer from the effects of wrong fuel contamination will only lead to increasing amounts of damage affecting your fuel system components.
  3. Are you interested in security?
Simply get it emptied. Regardless of contamination ratio, there is invariably some amount of risk resulting from operating a Petrol vehicle on fuel contaminated with the wrong fuel. Possible consequences of driving on the wrong fuel include the motor not starting, running lumpy, reduced power, degradation of the high-pressure pump, worn or clogged injectors, and so on. These are a few of the most common Diesel in Petrol signs and symptoms, and should you notice any of them stop and have it removed right now.

Do not simply have any unqualified mechanic to try to repair your automobile. We are Alfa Romeo specialists and possess the credentials and knowledge required to make sure that you get back on the road with a minimum of hassle or trouble.

Diesel in Petrol Questions

When someone has put Diesel in a Petrol car they have a few very common questions. So we have compiled a list of the most Frequently Asked Questions for you

I put Diesel in a Petrol car and drove it. What do I do?

Answer

Turn off the car as soon as possible and call us. Continuing to run a vehicle on the wrong fuel can potentially damage it. We will be able to give you advice and assistance based on your circumstances

Will driving a Petrol car on Diesel cause damage to it?

Answer

It can. However, if the problem is caught and remedied quickly the risks will be minimal. Of the 1,500 vehicles we attend every month, less than 0.5% have suffered and substantial damage requiring parts replacement.

How much Diesel can I get away with in a Petrol car?

Answer

The safe answer is none. However you might be able to get away with a very low contamination ratio. That being said, we always highly recommend draining anything over a 5% contamination ratio asap.

I know about petrol in diesel, but what about Super Unleaded?

Answer

Putting Super Unleaded, or Shell V-Power, BP Ultimate Unleaded, etc, will have the exact same effect as putting regular unleaded petrol in your diesel car and will need to be drained out and flushed.

Will getting you to do a fuel drain void my warranty?

Answer

No! The EU Block Exemption Regulations clearly state that "the work can be carried out by as long as that garage uses manufacturer approved parts and correctly follows the manufacturer's service schedule."

Can I top it up with Petrol and add some 2-stroke oil?

Answer

This might work on some vehicles in some cases, but in the majority on instances it won't and you risk damaging the Lambda sensors as well as fuel pump and injectors, just as a regular misfuel.
