Aston Martin Fuel Drain

Putting Diesel in a Petrol Aston Martin is a well-known error. And exactly what you have to do about it varies according to a few things. Assuming you want to find out what you should do to fix it then stay with me.
Here are the key factors to take into account whenever choosing whether to get a fuel drain:

  1. What amount of Diesel did you put in the Aston Martin, taking into account that the fuel capacity of the Aston Martin One 77 is in most cases approximately 98 litres?
    1. Hardly any Diesel, less than 4.9 litres of Diesel in a Petrol One 77 will in most cases not really be a huge problem. Experience has taught us that an amount under 4.9 litres (which is about 5% of the overall fuel tank capacity) is quite often capable of being completely diluted through thoroughly topping the rest of the tank with the right fuel.
It's highly rare to come across a vehicle experiencing issues with lower than 5% wrong fuel contamination. Be aware that it is very unusual - definitely not impossible to encounter. You can get a few vehicles that will not stand any degree of contamination in the slightest.
    2. Between 4.9 and 9.8 litres of Diesel in the Aston Martin (from 5 to 10%) is really a 50/50 scenario. Our expertise has demonstrated that as many motorists get away with it as all those who don't. When you are figuring out whether to risk it and basically fill it up remember that it is much like betting all of it on black - you have got a 50/50 chance of it working out.
    3. Anything over 9.8 litres of Diesel in your Petrol One 77 should really straight away be drained out because your probability of succeeding with this quantity of contamination is almost certainly below one in fifty - definitely big odds.
  2. Put some Diesel in a Petrol Aston Martin and drove it: Have you noted any performance problems ever since putting the incorrect fuel in the One 77? If so, get it drained irrespective of the quantity of Diesel or even the contamination ratio. Continually running a motor vehicle that is already starting to suffer from the effect of wrong fuel contamination can typically cause increasing amounts of harm being caused to your fuel system components.
  3. Would you like reassurance?
You should get it emptied. Whatever the contamination ratio, there is inevitably some extent of risk affiliated with driving a Petrol vehicle on fuel contaminated with Diesel. Possible results of driving a car on the incorrect fuel include the engine not starting, running lumpy, decrease in power, wearing of the high-pressure pump, damaged or blocked injectors, and so forth. These are some of the most common Diesel in Petrol signs or symptoms, and if you observe any of them then stop driving and have it drained immediately.

Turn off the car as soon as possible and call us. Continuing to run a vehicle on the wrong fuel can potentially damage it. We will be able to give you advice and assistance based on your circumstances

Will driving a Petrol car on Diesel cause damage to it?

It can. However, if the problem is caught and remedied quickly the risks will be minimal. Of the 1,500 vehicles we attend every month, less than 0.5% have suffered and substantial damage requiring parts replacement.

How much Diesel can I get away with in a Petrol car?

The safe answer is none. However you might be able to get away with a very low contamination ratio. That being said, we always highly recommend draining anything over a 5% contamination ratio asap.

I know about petrol in diesel, but what about Super Unleaded?

Putting Super Unleaded, or Shell V-Power, BP Ultimate Unleaded, etc, will have the exact same effect as putting regular unleaded petrol in your diesel car and will need to be drained out and flushed.

Will getting you to do a fuel drain void my warranty?

No! The EU Block Exemption Regulations clearly state that "the work can be carried out by as long as that garage uses manufacturer approved parts and correctly follows the manufacturer's service schedule."

Can I top it up with Petrol and add some 2-stroke oil?

This might work on some vehicles in some cases, but in the majority on instances it won't and you risk damaging the Lambda sensors as well as fuel pump and injectors, just as a regular misfuel.
