BMW Fuel Drain

ABOUT

Filling up with Diesel in a Petrol BMW is a fairly typical problem. And its solution varies according to a number of things. Assuming you want to know what it is best to do about it then continue reading.
These are the most important factors to consider when determining whether or not to have a fuel drain:

  1. What level of Diesel did you put in the BMW, taking into account that the fuel capacity of the BMW 318Ci is probably about 63 litres?
    1. A small amount of Diesel, something like 3.15 litres of Diesel in a Petrol 318Ci will quite often not really be a massive problem. Experience has taught us that quantities less than 3.15 litres (5% of the fuel tank) is quite often able to be adequately diluted by totally topping the remainder of the tank with Petrol.
It is very uncommon to come across an automobile suffering from difficulties because of under 5% wrong fuel contamination. Do not forget that it is unusual - certainly not impossible to encounter. There are actually some cars that will not stand any degree of fuel contamination at all.
    2. Anywhere between 3.15 and 6.3 litres of Diesel in the BMW (5 to 10%) is really a 50/50 situation. Our expertise has demonstrated that as many motorists get away with it as those who break down. When you are deciding upon whether to chance it and just simply fill it up consider that it is very much like betting all of it on black - you will have a 50/50 chance of it working out.
    3. Anything over 6.3 litres of Diesel in a Petrol 318Ci ought to as soon as possible be drained out seeing that your probability of succeeding with that amount of contamination is almost certainly less than one in 50 - definitely long odds.
  2. Put some Diesel in a Petrol BMW and drove it: Have you noticed any performance issues after putting the bad fuel in the 318Ci? If you have, get it drained regardless of the amount of Diesel or the contamination percentage. Still running a vehicle that is currently beginning to suffer the consequences of wrong fuel contamination will likely end up in increasing amounts of damage affecting the fuel system parts.
  3. Are you interested in assurance?
Then get it drained. Regardless of contamination percentage, there is invariably some extent of risk connected with driving a Petrol motor on Petrol contaminated with the wrong fuel. Likely implications of driving a car on the wrong fuel include things like the engine refusing to start, running lumpy, decrease in power, degradation of the high-pressure pump, worn out or bunged injectors, etc. These are some of the most typical Diesel in Petrol signs or symptoms, and should you detect any of them then stop and have it drained asap.
