BMW Fuel Drain

ABOUT

Putting Diesel in a Petrol BMW is a common mistake. And its remedy hinges on several things. In case you want to know what you need to do to fix it then stay with me.
Right here are the key factors to consider whenever choosing whether to get your car drained:

  1. How much Diesel have you put into the BMW, taking into consideration that the fuel tank capacity of your BMW 323i is in most cases roughly 65 litres?
    1. Hardly any Diesel, as little as 3.25 litres of Diesel in a Petrol 323i will most of the time not really be a huge problem. Experience has demonstrated to us that an amount under 3.25 litres (close to 5% of the whole fuel tank volume) is in many instances capable of being adequately diluted through totally filling up the rest of the tank with the correct fuel.
It's rather rare to encounter a car or truck having problems with below 5% wrong fuel contamination. Please remember it is very rare - in no way impossible to encounter. You can get a number of cars that will not endure any level of contamination in the slightest.
    2. Between 3.25 and 6.5 litres of Diesel in the BMW (5 to 10%) is more of a 50/50 scenario. Our practical experience has proven that as many people get away with it as all those who don't. Whenever you are deciding on whether to risk it and just simply fill it up bear in mind that it is just like gambling everything on black - you've got a 50/50 possibility of it working.
    3. Anything over 6.5 litres of Diesel in your Petrol 323i should really straight away be drained since your probability of getting away with this level of contamination is very likely below one in 50 - really huge odds.
  2. Put Diesel in a Petrol BMW and drove it: Have you detected any performance concerns after putting the bad fuel in your 323i? If that's the case, have it removed no matter the volume of Diesel or even the contamination ratio. Still driving a vehicle that is beginning to suffer from the consequences of wrong fuel contamination can likely end up in more and more damage affecting the fuel system.
  3. Are you looking for reassurance?
In that case get it removed. Regardless of the contamination percentage, there is invariably some amount of risk caused by running a Petrol engine on fuel contaminated with Diesel. Possible outcomes of driving a vehicle on the incorrect fuel include the engine refusing to start, running lumpy, loss in power, wearing of the high-pressure pump, worn or blocked injectors, and so on. These are a few of the commonest Diesel in Petrol symptoms, and should you notice any of them stop and have it drained right away.

Will driving a Petrol car on Diesel cause damage to it?

It can. However, if the problem is caught and remedied quickly the risks will be minimal. Of the 1,500 vehicles we attend every month, less than 0.5% have suffered and substantial damage requiring parts replacement.

Putting Super Unleaded, or Shell V-Power, BP Ultimate Unleaded, etc, will have the exact same effect as putting regular unleaded petrol in your diesel car and will need to be drained out and flushed.

Will getting you to do a fuel drain void my warranty?

Answer

No! The EU Block Exemption Regulations clearly state that "the work can be carried out by as long as that garage uses manufacturer approved parts and correctly follows the manufacturer's service schedule."

Can I top it up with Petrol and add some 2-stroke oil?

Answer

This might work on some vehicles in some cases, but in the majority on instances it won't and you risk damaging the Lambda sensors as well as fuel pump and injectors, just as a regular misfuel.
