BMW Fuel Drain

ABOUT

Filling Diesel in a Petrol BMW is a usual error. And its remedy is based on several factors. If you want to find out what to do about this then keep on reading.
Listed here are the most important factors to take into consideration when making a decision whether to have your car drained:

  1. How much Diesel have you put in the BMW, considering that the fuel tank capacity of the BMW 330Ci is most likely around 63 litres?
    1. Hardly any Diesel, something like 3.15 litres of Diesel in a Petrol 330Ci will generally not necessarily be a significant problem. Experience has taught us that an amount less than 3.15 litres (close to 5% of the entire fuel tank) is in many instances capable of being completely diluted through completely topping the remainder of the tank with Petrol.
It's extremely unusual to come across a vehicle having problems because of under 5% wrong fuel contamination. Do not forget that it is rare - definitely not impossible to encounter. There are a number of vehicles that don't endure any level of contamination in the slightest.
    2. Between 3.15 and 6.3 litres of Diesel in the BMW (5 to 10%) is more of a 50/50 situation. Our practical experience has proven that as many motorists get away with it as those people who don't. When you are trying to decide whether or not to risk it and just top it up recognise that it is exactly like betting all of it on black - you have got a 50/50 possibility of it working out.
    3. Anything over 6.3 litres of Diesel in a Petrol 330Ci really should as soon as possible be removed seeing as your probability of driving with this level of contamination is in all likelihood below one in 50 - really huge odds.
  2. Put Diesel in a Petrol BMW and drove it: Have you noted any performance concerns since putting the incorrect fuel in the 330Ci? In that case, get it emptied no matter the quantity of Diesel or the contamination ratio. Continually driving an automobile that is currently starting to suffer from the effects of fuel contamination will probably likely result in more harm affecting the fuel system parts.
  3. Would you like security?
Then simply just get it emptied. No matter the contamination ratio, there is invariably some amount of risk connected to driving a Petrol engine on fuel contaminated with Diesel. Likely implications of driving a car on the wrong fuel include things like the motor not starting, running lumpy, lack of power, degradation of the high-pressure pump, damaged or bunged injectors, etc. These are a few of the most common Diesel in Petrol warning signs, and in the event that you notice any of them cease driving and have it removed as soon as possible.

Diesel in Petrol Questions

When someone has put Diesel in a Petrol car they have a few very common questions. So we have compiled a list of the most Frequently Asked Questions for you

I put Diesel in a Petrol car and drove it. What do I do?

Answer

Turn off the car as soon as possible and call us. Continuing to run a vehicle on the wrong fuel can potentially damage it. We will be able to give you advice and assistance based on your circumstances

Will driving a Petrol car on Diesel cause damage to it?

Answer

It can. However, if the problem is caught and remedied quickly the risks will be minimal. Of the 1,500 vehicles we attend every month, less than 0.5% have suffered and substantial damage requiring parts replacement.

How much Diesel can I get away with in a Petrol car?

Answer

The safe answer is none. However you might be able to get away with a very low contamination ratio. That being said, we always highly recommend draining anything over a 5% contamination ratio asap.

I know about petrol in diesel, but what about Super Unleaded?

Answer

Putting Super Unleaded, or Shell V-Power, BP Ultimate Unleaded, etc, will have the exact same effect as putting regular unleaded petrol in your diesel car and will need to be drained out and flushed.

Will getting you to do a fuel drain void my warranty?

Answer

No! The EU Block Exemption Regulations clearly state that "the work can be carried out by as long as that garage uses manufacturer approved parts and correctly follows the manufacturer's service schedule."

Can I top it up with Petrol and add some 2-stroke oil?

Answer

This might work on some vehicles in some cases, but in the majority on instances it won't and you risk damaging the Lambda sensors as well as fuel pump and injectors, just as a regular misfuel.
