BMW Fuel Drain

ABOUT

Filling up with Diesel in a Petrol BMW is a fairly typical mistake to make. And what you should do about it depends on an assortment of things. If you want to know what to do to sort it out then stay with me.
These are the main variables to keep in mind whenever deciding on whether or not to have a fuel drain:

  1. How much Diesel did you put in the BMW, bearing in mind that the fuel tank capacity of the BMW 330xi is most likely approximately 63 litres?
    1. A modest quantity of Diesel, something like 3.15 litres of Diesel in a Petrol 330xi will typically not really be a significant problem. Experience has shown us that quantities less than 3.15 litres (which is almost 5% of the entire fuel tank volume) is quite often able to be adequately diluted through thoroughly topping the tank with Petrol.
It's extremely rare to come across a vehicle suffering from difficulties because of below 5% wrong fuel contamination. Please remember it is very infrequently found - in no way impossible to encounter. You will discover some vehicles that don't stand any amount of contamination whatsoever.
    2. Between 3.15 and 6.3 litres of Diesel in the BMW (5 to 10%) is really a 50/50 condition. Our experience has shown us that as many motorists get away with this as those people who don't. Any time you're trying to decide whether or not to chance it and just fill it up recognise that it is just like betting your car on black - you've got a 50/50 possibility of it working out.
    3. Anything more than 6.3 litres of Diesel in your Petrol 330xi should as soon as possible be drained seeing as your probability of succeeding with this amount of contamination is certainly lower than one in fifty - truly huge odds.
  2. Put Diesel in a Petrol BMW and drove it: Have you spotted any performance difficulties after putting the incorrect fuel in the 330xi? If that's the case, have it removed regardless of the volume of Diesel or the contamination ratio. Proceeding to drive running a vehicle that is already starting to suffer from the consequences of wrong fuel contamination will probably definitely end up in progressively more damage being done to the fuel system.
  3. Are you interested in security?
In that case get it drained. Regardless of the contamination ratio, there is always a certain level of danger connected to driving a Petrol motor on Petrol contaminated with the incorrect fuel. Possible final outcomes of driving a car on the incorrect fuel include things like the engine refusing to start, running unevenly, decrease in power, wearing of the high-pressure pump, worn out or bunged injectors, and the like. These are a few of the most common Diesel in Petrol warning signs, and should you detect any of them then stop driving and get it drained immediately.

No! The EU Block Exemption Regulations clearly state that "the work can be carried out by as long as that garage uses manufacturer approved parts and correctly follows the manufacturer's service schedule."

Can I top it up with Petrol and add some 2-stroke oil?

Answer

This might work on some vehicles in some cases, but in the majority on instances it won't and you risk damaging the Lambda sensors as well as fuel pump and injectors, just as a regular misfuel.
