BMW Fuel Drain

ABOUT

Putting Diesel in a Petrol BMW is a usual error. And exactly what you need to do about it varies according to a few things. In case you would like to find out what to do to fix it then continue reading.
Listed here the key variables to consider whenever deciding whether to get a fuel drain:

  1. What amount of Diesel have you put in to the BMW, bearing in mind that the fuel capacity of your BMW 545i is in most cases about 70 litres?
    1. A modest quantity of Diesel, as little as 3.5 litres of Diesel in a Petrol 545i will usually not really be a major problem. Experience has proven to us that quantities under 3.5 litres (which is almost 5% of the total fuel tank capacity) is usually capable of being completely diluted by totally filling up the tank with Petrol.
It is very unusual to come across a car or truck having issues due to less than 5% wrong fuel contamination. Keep in mind it's uncommon - certainly not impossible to encounter. There are a few cars that won't stand any quantity of fuel contamination at all.
    2. Somewhere between 3.5 and 7 litres of Diesel in the BMW (from 5 to 10%) is more of a 50/50 condition. Our practical experience has proven that as many drivers get away with this as those people who don't. When deciding whether to risk it and just fill it up bear in mind that it is just like wagering all of it on black - you have got a 50/50 possibility of it working out.
    3. Anything more than 7 litres of Diesel in a Petrol 545i must right away be removed as your probability of succeeding with this level of contamination is almost certainly lower than one in fifty - genuinely big odds.
  2. Put Diesel in a Petrol BMW and drove it: Have you spotted any performance concerns ever since putting the incorrect fuel in the 545i? If you have, have it drained irrespective of the amount of Diesel or the contamination percentage. Proceeding to drive running a motor vehicle that is beginning to suffer the effect of fuel contamination will definitely cause increasing amounts of damage being done to your fuel system.
  3. Are you looking for peace of mind?
Then get it emptied. Whatever the contamination percentage, there is inevitably some extent of risk resulting from operating a Petrol vehicle on Petrol contaminated with the wrong fuel. Possible results of driving on the wrong fuel can include the motor refusing to start, running lumpy, loss of power, wearing of the high-pressure pump, damaged or blocked injectors, and the like. These are a few of the most common Diesel in Petrol signs and symptoms, and should you recognise any of them stop driving and get it removed asap.

Steer clear of getting any general so-and-so to try to fix your car. We are BMW experts and have got the accreditation and experience needed to ensure you get back on the road with little hassle or worry.

Diesel in Petrol Questions

When someone has put Diesel in a Petrol car they have a few very common questions. So we have compiled a list of the most Frequently Asked Questions for you

I put Diesel in a Petrol car and drove it. What do I do?

Answer

Turn off the car as soon as possible and call us. Continuing to run a vehicle on the wrong fuel can potentially damage it. We will be able to give you advice and assistance based on your circumstances

Will driving a Petrol car on Diesel cause damage to it?

Answer

It can. However, if the problem is caught and remedied quickly the risks will be minimal. Of the 1,500 vehicles we attend every month, less than 0.5% have suffered and substantial damage requiring parts replacement.

How much Diesel can I get away with in a Petrol car?

Answer

The safe answer is none. However you might be able to get away with a very low contamination ratio. That being said, we always highly recommend draining anything over a 5% contamination ratio asap.

I know about petrol in diesel, but what about Super Unleaded?

Answer

Putting Super Unleaded, or Shell V-Power, BP Ultimate Unleaded, etc, will have the exact same effect as putting regular unleaded petrol in your diesel car and will need to be drained out and flushed.

Will getting you to do a fuel drain void my warranty?

Answer

No! The EU Block Exemption Regulations clearly state that "the work can be carried out by as long as that garage uses manufacturer approved parts and correctly follows the manufacturer's service schedule."

Can I top it up with Petrol and add some 2-stroke oil?

Answer

This might work on some vehicles in some cases, but in the majority on instances it won't and you risk damaging the Lambda sensors as well as fuel pump and injectors, just as a regular misfuel.
