BMW Fuel Drain

ABOUT

Filling up with Diesel in a Petrol BMW is a very common mistake to make. And its solution is based on several things. Assuming you want to find out what you must do about this then please read on.
Listed below are the most important factors to consider whenever deciding on whether or not to get the car drained:

  1. Exactly how much Diesel did you put in the BMW, bearing in mind that the fuel capacity of your BMW 650i is normally about 70 litres?
    1. A small amount of Diesel, as little as 3.5 litres of Diesel in a Petrol 650i will in most cases not necessarily be a significant problem. Experience has proven to us that an amount less than 3.5 litres (close to 5% of the whole fuel tank volume) is often capable of being sufficiently diluted by means of entirely filling up the rest of the tank with Petrol.
It's pretty uncommon to find a motor vehicle experiencing problems with below 5% wrong fuel contamination. Keep in mind that it's infrequent - definitely not impossible to find. You can get certain vehicles that won't endure any degree of fuel contamination in the slightest.
    2. Anywhere between 3.5 and 7 litres of Diesel in the BMW (5 to 10%) is a 50/50 situation. Our expertise has proven that as many people get away with this as those who break down. When deciding whether or not to risk it and basically top it up recognise that it is just like gambling it all on black - you have got a 50/50 possibility of it being ok.
    3. Anything over 7 litres of Diesel in a Petrol 650i should straight away be drained out seeing as your likelihood of getting away with that quantity of contamination is undoubtedly below one in 50 - extremely huge odds.
  2. Put some Diesel in a Petrol BMW and drove it: Have you noticed any performance issues since putting the bad fuel in your 650i? If you have, have it removed irrespective of the quantity of Diesel or the contamination percentage. Proceeding to run driving an automobile that is beginning to suffer from the consequences of fuel contamination can just bring about more damage affecting the fuel system components.
  3. Do you need reassurance?
Simply get it emptied. No matter the contamination percentage, there is always a certain level of danger associated with driving a Petrol engine on fuel contaminated with Diesel. Likely implications of driving a vehicle on the incorrect fuel include the engine refusing to start, running unevenly, decrease in power, wearing of the high-pressure pump, damaged or blocked injectors, and so on. These are some of the most frequently seen Diesel in Petrol warning signs, and in the event that you detect any of them then stop and have it drained right now.

Do not just get any unqualified mechanic to try to drain your car. We are BMW specialists and have got the credentials and expertise necessary to ensure that you get back on the road with little hassle or trouble.

It can. However, if the problem is caught and remedied quickly the risks will be minimal. Of the 1,500 vehicles we attend every month, less than 0.5% have suffered and substantial damage requiring parts replacement.

Putting Super Unleaded, or Shell V-Power, BP Ultimate Unleaded, etc, will have the exact same effect as putting regular unleaded petrol in your diesel car and will need to be drained out and flushed.

Will getting you to do a fuel drain void my warranty?

Answer

No! The EU Block Exemption Regulations clearly state that "the work can be carried out by as long as that garage uses manufacturer approved parts and correctly follows the manufacturer's service schedule."

Can I top it up with Petrol and add some 2-stroke oil?

Answer

This might work on some vehicles in some cases, but in the majority on instances it won't and you risk damaging the Lambda sensors as well as fuel pump and injectors, just as a regular misfuel.
