BMW Fuel Drain

ABOUT

Putting Diesel in a Petrol BMW is a well-known mistake. And its solution is dependent upon a variety of things. In case you would like to know what it is advisable to do about this then please read on.
These are the key variables to keep in mind when making a decision whether or not to have it drained:

  1. Exactly how much Diesel have you put in to the BMW, keeping in mind that the fuel tank capacity of the BMW x5 is normally about 92 litres?
    1. A small quantity of Diesel, as little as 4.6 litres of Diesel in a Petrol x5 will quite often not necessarily be a huge problem. Experience has shown us that anything under 4.6 litres (5% of the fuel tank) is usually able to be adequately diluted simply by thoroughly topping up the tank with Petrol.
It is extremely unusual to encounter a motor vehicle having issues due to under 5% incorrect fuel contamination. Bear in mind that it is very rare - certainly not impossible to encounter. You will discover a few vehicles that don't endure any amount of contamination whatsoever.
    2. Somewhere between 4.6 and 9.2 litres of Diesel in the BMW (5 to 10%) is really a 50/50 situation. Our practical experience has revealed that as many motorists get away with this as those people who don't. Any time you are trying to decide whether or not to risk it and just top it up remember that it is the same thing as betting everything on black - you've got a 50/50 possibility of it working out.
    3. Anything above 9.2 litres of Diesel in a Petrol x5 should straight away be drained since your probability of getting away with that level of contamination is undoubtedly less than one in 50 - really huge odds.
  2. Put some Diesel in a Petrol BMW and drove it: Have you noted any kind of performance problems since putting the wrong fuel in your x5? If so, get it emptied irrespective of the amount of Diesel or even the contamination ratio. Continually driving a motor vehicle that is now starting to suffer the consequences of fuel contamination can typically be responsible for even more damage being done to the fuel system parts.
  3. Are you interested in security?
You should get it removed. Regardless of the contamination percentage, there is invariably a certain level of threat affiliated with running a Petrol engine on fuel contaminated with the wrong fuel. Possible implications of driving a vehicle on the wrong fuel normally include the motor not starting, running lumpy, lack of power, degradation of the high-pressure pump, worn out or clogged injectors, and so on. These are some of the most frequently seen Diesel in Petrol signs or symptoms, and if you recognise any of them then stop and have it drained immediately.
