Citroen Fuel Drain

Filling Diesel in a Petrol Citroen is a very common mistake to make. And its solution is dependent upon a few factors. If perhaps you would like to know what you must do to fix it then continue reading.
Listed here are the most crucial variables to be aware of when figuring out whether to have the car drained:

  1. How much Diesel did you put into the Citroen, taking into account that the fuel capacity of the Citroen C2 is in most cases roughly 41 litres?
    1. A tiny quantity of Diesel, less than 2.05 litres of Diesel in a Petrol C2 will more often than not not be a major problem. Experience has demonstrated to us that anything less than 2.05 litres (which is almost 5% of the whole fuel tank capacity) is oftentimes able to be sufficiently diluted by completely filling up the remainder of the tank with Petrol.
It is quite unusual to come across an automobile going through difficulties due to under 5% wrong fuel contamination. Do not forget that it is unusual - not impossible to encounter. You can get some vehicles that don't stand any level of fuel contamination whatsoever.
    2. Somewhere between 2.05 and 4.1 litres of Diesel in the Citroen (from 5 to 10%) is a 50/50 condition. Our experience demonstrates that as many motorists get away with this as those who break down. Any time you are deciding on whether or not to risk it and just top it up recognise that it is much like betting everything on black - you will have a 50/50 possibility of it working.
    3. Anything more than 4.1 litres of Diesel in a Petrol C2 really should right away be removed because your probability of driving with this amount of contamination is almost certainly less than one in fifty - really long odds.
  2. Put some Diesel in a Petrol Citroen and drove it: Have you detected any performance difficulties since putting the wrong fuel in your C2? If that's the case, have it drained no matter the volume of Diesel or the contamination ratio. Proceeding to run driving a motor vehicle that is currently beginning to suffer from the effects of fuel contamination will typically lead to even more harm affecting the fuel system parts.
  3. Do you need security?
Simply get it emptied. Regardless of the contamination percentage, there is invariably some amount of threat affiliated with running a Petrol vehicle on Petrol contaminated with Diesel. Likely implications of driving a car on the incorrect fuel normally include the motor not starting, running lumpy, loss of power, wearing of the high-pressure pump, damaged or blocked injectors, etc. These are some of the commonest Diesel in Petrol signs or symptoms, and in the event that you detect any of them then cease driving and get it drained right away.

Turn off the car as soon as possible and call us. Continuing to run a vehicle on the wrong fuel can potentially damage it. We will be able to give you advice and assistance based on your circumstances

It can. However, if the problem is caught and remedied quickly the risks will be minimal. Of the 1,500 vehicles we attend every month, less than 0.5% have suffered and substantial damage requiring parts replacement.

How much Diesel can I get away with in a Petrol car?

The safe answer is none. However you might be able to get away with a very low contamination ratio. That being said, we always highly recommend draining anything over a 5% contamination ratio asap.

I know about petrol in diesel, but what about Super Unleaded?

Putting Super Unleaded, or Shell V-Power, BP Ultimate Unleaded, etc, will have the exact same effect as putting regular unleaded petrol in your diesel car and will need to be drained out and flushed.

Will getting you to do a fuel drain void my warranty?

No! The EU Block Exemption Regulations clearly state that "the work can be carried out by as long as that garage uses manufacturer approved parts and correctly follows the manufacturer's service schedule."

Can I top it up with Petrol and add some 2-stroke oil?

This might work on some vehicles in some cases, but in the majority on instances it won't and you risk damaging the Lambda sensors as well as fuel pump and injectors, just as a regular misfuel.
