Citroen Fuel Drain

ABOUT

Filling up with Diesel in a Petrol Citroen is a regularly occurring mistake. And exactly what you should do about it hinges on a variety of things. Assuming you want to know what to do to fix it then read on.
Here are the key variables to to consider whenever deciding on whether or not to have it drained:

  1. What amount of Diesel did you put in to the Citroen, considering that the fuel tank capacity of your Citroen Saxo is in most cases around 45 litres?
    1. A modest quantity of Diesel, less than 2.25 litres of Diesel in a Petrol Saxo will normally not be a big problem. Experience has proven to us that quantities under 2.25 litres (which is about 5% of the whole fuel tank volume) is usually capable of being completely diluted by entirely topping the remainder of the tank with Petrol.
It is relatively unusual to encounter a motor vehicle having problems because of under 5% wrong fuel contamination. Do not forget that it is infrequently found - not impossible to encounter. There are actually certain vehicles that won't endure any degree of contamination whatsoever.
    2. Between 2.25 and 4.5 litres of Diesel in the Citroen (from 5 to 10%) is more of a 50/50 scenario. Our expertise has shown us that as many drivers get away with this as those people who don't. Whenever figuring out whether to risk it and just simply fill it up bear in mind that it is very much like gambling everything on black - you have a 50/50 chance of it working out.
    3. Anything more than 4.5 litres of Diesel in a Petrol Saxo should really straight away be drained because your likelihood of succeeding with this quantity of contamination is probably lower than one in 50 - genuinely big odds.
  2. Put some Diesel in a Petrol Citroen and drove it: Have you noticed any performance difficulties ever since putting the wrong fuel in the Saxo? In that case, have it removed no matter the quantity of Diesel or even the contamination ratio. Proceeding to drive driving a motor vehicle that is beginning to suffer from the effects of fuel contamination can definitely bring about more and more harm being done to the fuel system components.
  3. Do you need security?
In that case get it removed. Regardless of the contamination ratio, there is always some amount of risk resulting from driving a Petrol motor on fuel contaminated with the incorrect fuel. Possible implications of driving on the wrong fuel include things like the motor not starting, running unevenly, loss of power, wearing of the high-pressure pump, worn out or bunged injectors, etc. These are several of the most common Diesel in Petrol symptoms, and in the event that you detect any of them then stop and have it removed right away.
