Citroen Fuel Drain

ABOUT

Filling up with Diesel in a Petrol Citroen is a regular mistake. And exactly what you need to do about it is determined by several different factors. In the event that you would like to find out what to do about it then keep on reading.
Let us discuss the key variables to consider whenever deciding on whether or not to get a fuel drain:

  1. How much Diesel did you put in to the Citroen, considering that the fuel tank capacity of the Citroen Xantia is usually approximately 65 litres?
    1. A tiny amount of Diesel, something like 3.25 litres of Diesel in a Petrol Xantia will in most cases not necessarily be a significant problem. Experience has demonstrated to us that quantities under 3.25 litres (which is close to 5% of the entire fuel tank) is usually capable of being sufficiently diluted by means of completely topping up the remainder of the tank with the right fuel.
It is pretty unusual to encounter a car experiencing issues due to below 5% incorrect fuel contamination. Bear in mind that it is uncommon - definitely not impossible to find. There are a number of automobiles that will not stand any level of fuel contamination at all.
    2. Anywhere between 3.25 and 6.5 litres of Diesel in the Citroen (5 to 10%) is really a 50/50 scenario. Our expertise demonstrates that as many motorists get away with this as all those who break down. Whenever deciding upon whether or not to risk it and basically top it up bear in mind that it is exactly like betting it all on black - you have a 50/50 possibility of it working.
    3. Anything more than 6.5 litres of Diesel in your Petrol Xantia must promptly be drained since your likelihood of getting away with this amount of contamination is probably lower than one in 50 - definitely huge odds.
  2. Put Diesel in a Petrol Citroen and drove it: Have you detected any kind of performance troubles as a result of putting the incorrect fuel in your Xantia? If that's the case, have it emptied regardless of the amount of Diesel or even the contamination ratio. Still running an automobile that is starting to suffer the effects of wrong fuel contamination will probably just bring about more damage being caused to your fuel system parts.
  3. Would you like reassurance?
You should get it removed. No matter the contamination ratio, there is inevitably some degree of threat affiliated with running a Petrol engine on fuel contaminated with the incorrect fuel. Possible implications of driving on the wrong fuel can include the engine refusing to start, running unevenly, loss of power, wearing of the high-pressure pump, worn out or bunged injectors, etc. These are several of the most typical Diesel in Petrol warning signs, and if you notice any of them then stop and have it removed as soon as possible.

This might work on some vehicles in some cases, but in the majority on instances it won't and you risk damaging the Lambda sensors as well as fuel pump and injectors, just as a regular misfuel.
