Ferrari Fuel Drain

Putting Diesel in a Petrol Ferrari is a fairly typical mistake. And what you should do about it hinges on various factors. Assuming you want to find out what to do about this then keep on reading.
Listed below are the key factors to be aware of whenever deciding on whether or not to get a fuel drain:

  1. What amount of Diesel have you put in to the Ferrari, bearing in mind that the fuel tank capacity of your Ferrari Superamerica is normally approximately 105 litres?
    1. A small quantity of Diesel, as little as 5.25 litres of Diesel in a Petrol Superamerica will most of the time not really be a major problem. Experience has taught us that quantities less than 5.25 litres (approximately 5% of the entire fuel tank) is oftentimes capable of being completely diluted simply by thoroughly topping the rest of the tank with Petrol.
It's very uncommon to encounter a car or truck going through difficulties due to below 5% incorrect fuel contamination. Please remember it is rare - definitely not impossible to encounter. You can get certain motor vehicles that don't endure any level of fuel contamination at all.
    2. In between 5.25 and 10.5 litres of Diesel in the Ferrari (5 to 10%) is more of a 50/50 condition. Our practical experience has shown that as many motorists get away with it as those who don't. Whenever you are deciding whether to risk it and basically top it up remember that it is very much like wagering all of it on black - you will have a 50/50 possibility of it working.
    3. Anything more than 10.5 litres of Diesel in a Petrol Superamerica should really immediately be removed seeing that your probability of succeeding with that quantity of contamination is in all likelihood below one in 50 - seriously big odds.
  2. Put some Diesel in a Petrol Ferrari and drove it: Have you noted any performance difficulties ever since putting the bad fuel in your Superamerica? If you have, get it removed regardless of the quantity of Diesel or even the contamination percentage. Still driving a vehicle that is already starting to suffer from the effects of fuel contamination will just be responsible for increasing amounts of harm affecting your fuel system parts.
  3. Do you want reassurance?
Then simply just get it emptied. Regardless of contamination percentage, there is invariably some extent of risk in connection with driving a Petrol engine on fuel contaminated with Diesel. Probable consequences of driving a car on the wrong fuel can include the engine refusing to start, running lumpy, decrease in power, degradation of the high-pressure pump, worn out or bunged injectors, and the like. These are some of the most typical Diesel in Petrol symptoms, and should you notice any of them cease driving and have it removed as soon as possible.

Turn off the car as soon as possible and call us. Continuing to run a vehicle on the wrong fuel can potentially damage it. We will be able to give you advice and assistance based on your circumstances

It can. However, if the problem is caught and remedied quickly the risks will be minimal. Of the 1,500 vehicles we attend every month, less than 0.5% have suffered and substantial damage requiring parts replacement.

How much Diesel can I get away with in a Petrol car?

The safe answer is none. However you might be able to get away with a very low contamination ratio. That being said, we always highly recommend draining anything over a 5% contamination ratio asap.

I know about petrol in diesel, but what about Super Unleaded?

Putting Super Unleaded, or Shell V-Power, BP Ultimate Unleaded, etc, will have the exact same effect as putting regular unleaded petrol in your diesel car and will need to be drained out and flushed.

Will getting you to do a fuel drain void my warranty?

No! The EU Block Exemption Regulations clearly state that "the work can be carried out by as long as that garage uses manufacturer approved parts and correctly follows the manufacturer's service schedule."

Can I top it up with Petrol and add some 2-stroke oil?

This might work on some vehicles in some cases, but in the majority on instances it won't and you risk damaging the Lambda sensors as well as fuel pump and injectors, just as a regular misfuel.
