Ford Fuel Drain

ABOUT

Putting Diesel in a Petrol Ford is a fairly typical mistake to make. And what you have to do about it varies according to various factors. Assuming you would like to know what you have to do to sort it out then keep on reading.
Here are the most crucial variables to be aware of when deciding whether or not to have your car drained:

  1. What level of Diesel did you put in to the Ford, bearing in mind that the fuel capacity of the Ford Focus C-Max is usually approximately 55 litres?
    1. Hardly any Diesel, as little as 2.75 litres of Diesel in a Petrol Focus C-Max will most of the time not be a big problem. Experience has proven to us that quantities under 2.75 litres (approximately 5% of the entire fuel tank capacity) is generally capable of being sufficiently diluted through completely topping up the rest of the tank with the appropriate fuel.
It's quite uncommon to encounter a car or truck suffering from problems with less than 5% incorrect fuel contamination. Bear in mind that it is infrequently found - in no way impossible to find. There are certain vehicles that will not endure any degree of contamination whatsoever.
    2. In between 2.75 and 5.5 litres of Diesel in the Ford (from 5 to 10%) is a 50/50 condition. Our practical experience has proven that as many people get away with this as those who break down. Any time you're trying to decide whether to chance it and just top it up consider that it is just like wagering everything on black - you've got a 50/50 chance of it working.
    3. Anything more than 5.5 litres of Diesel in a Petrol Focus C-Max should immediately be drained out because your likelihood of succeeding with this level of contamination is almost certainly less than one in fifty - definitely huge odds.
  2. Put some Diesel in a Petrol Ford and drove it: Have you noted any performance troubles ever since putting the bad fuel in your Focus C-Max? In that case, have it removed irrespective of the volume of Diesel or the contamination ratio. Still running an automobile that is currently starting to suffer the effect of wrong fuel contamination will probably just be responsible for more and more damage being caused to your fuel system.
  3. Are you interested in security?
In that case get it drained. Whatever the contamination ratio, there is inevitably some degree of danger affiliated with running a Petrol vehicle on Petrol contaminated with the incorrect fuel. Likely outcomes of driving on the wrong fuel can include the motor refusing to start, running lumpy, decrease in power, degradation of the high-pressure pump, worn or blocked injectors, and so forth. These are several of the most common Diesel in Petrol signs or symptoms, and in the event that you recognise any of them cease driving and get it removed as soon as possible.

Turn off the car as soon as possible and call us. Continuing to run a vehicle on the wrong fuel can potentially damage it. We will be able to give you advice and assistance based on your circumstances

Will driving a Petrol car on Diesel cause damage to it?

Answer

It can. However, if the problem is caught and remedied quickly the risks will be minimal. Of the 1,500 vehicles we attend every month, less than 0.5% have suffered and substantial damage requiring parts replacement.

Answer

Putting Super Unleaded, or Shell V-Power, BP Ultimate Unleaded, etc, will have the exact same effect as putting regular unleaded petrol in your diesel car and will need to be drained out and flushed.

Will getting you to do a fuel drain void my warranty?

Answer

No! The EU Block Exemption Regulations clearly state that "the work can be carried out by as long as that garage uses manufacturer approved parts and correctly follows the manufacturer's service schedule."

Can I top it up with Petrol and add some 2-stroke oil?

Answer

This might work on some vehicles in some cases, but in the majority on instances it won't and you risk damaging the Lambda sensors as well as fuel pump and injectors, just as a regular misfuel.
