Honda Fuel Drain

ABOUT

Putting Diesel in a Petrol Honda is a regular problem. And exactly what you have to do about it depends upon various factors. In case you want to find out what you must do about it then stay with me.
Listed here are the main variables to take into consideration when making a decision whether or not to get the car drained:

  1. What amount of Diesel have you put in the Honda, keeping in mind that the fuel tank capacity of the Honda CR-Z is normally around 40 litres?
    1. A modest amount of Diesel, something like 2 litres of Diesel in a Petrol CR-Z will normally not necessarily be a significant problem. Experience has taught us that quantities less than 2 litres (which is close to 5% of the overall fuel tank) is oftentimes capable of being sufficiently diluted by means of wholly topping up the tank with Petrol.
It is highly rare to encounter a motor vehicle suffering from problems due to less than 5% incorrect fuel contamination. Keep in mind that it is rare - certainly not impossible to find. You can get certain cars that will not stand any degree of fuel contamination whatsoever.
    2. Anywhere between 2 and 4 litres of Diesel in the Honda (5 to 10%) is really a 50/50 condition. Our working experience has proven that as many motorists get away with it as all those who break down. Whenever figuring out whether or not to risk it and basically top it up bear in mind that it is exactly like gambling everything on black - you have a 50/50 possibility of it working.
    3. Anything over 4 litres of Diesel in your Petrol CR-Z should straight away be removed seeing as your likelihood of getting away with this level of contamination is probably less than one in 50 - truly huge odds.
  2. Put Diesel in a Petrol Honda and drove it: Have you noticed any kind of performance concerns as a result of putting the wrong fuel in the CR-Z? If that's the case, have it removed no matter the volume of Diesel or the contamination ratio. Still driving a motor vehicle that is already beginning to suffer from the effect of wrong fuel contamination will just result in even more harm being done to your fuel system parts.
  3. Are you interested in security?
You should get it emptied. Regardless of contamination percentage, there is always some amount of threat connected to driving a Petrol engine on fuel contaminated with Diesel. Probable consequences of driving on the wrong fuel include the engine refusing to start, running unevenly, reduced power, wearing of the high-pressure pump, worn or bunged injectors, and so on. These are some of the most frequently seen Diesel in Petrol signs and symptoms, and in the event that you detect any of them stop and get it removed asap.

Keep away from getting any jack-of-all-trades to try to fix your car. We are Honda experts and hold the qualifications and knowledge needed to ensure you get back on the road with minimal hassle or worry.

Diesel in Petrol FAQs

When someone has put Diesel in a Petrol car they have a few very common questions. So we have compiled a list of the most Frequently Asked Questions for you

I put Diesel in a Petrol car and drove it. What do I do?

Answer

Turn off the car as soon as possible and call us. Continuing to run a vehicle on the wrong fuel can potentially damage it. We will be able to give you advice and assistance based on your circumstances

Will driving a Petrol car on Diesel cause damage to it?

Answer

It can. However, if the problem is caught and remedied quickly the risks will be minimal. Of the 1,500 vehicles we attend every month, less than 0.5% have suffered and substantial damage requiring parts replacement.

How much Diesel can I get away with in a Petrol car?

Answer

The safe answer is none. However you might be able to get away with a very low contamination ratio. That being said, we always highly recommend draining anything over a 5% contamination ratio asap.

I know about petrol in diesel, but what about Super Unleaded?

Answer

Putting Super Unleaded, or Shell V-Power, BP Ultimate Unleaded, etc, will have the exact same effect as putting regular unleaded petrol in your diesel car and will need to be drained out and flushed.

Will getting you to do a fuel drain void my warranty?

Answer

No! The EU Block Exemption Regulations clearly state that "the work can be carried out by as long as that garage uses manufacturer approved parts and correctly follows the manufacturer's service schedule."

Can I top it up with Petrol and add some 2-stroke oil?

Answer

This might work on some vehicles in some cases, but in the majority on instances it won't and you risk damaging the Lambda sensors as well as fuel pump and injectors, just as a regular misfuel.
