Hyundai Fuel Drain

ABOUT

Putting Diesel in a Petrol Hyundai is a fairly typical mistake to make. And its solution is determined by several things. In case you would like to find out what it is best to do to sort it out then stay with me.
Let us discuss the most crucial factors to take into account whenever making a decision whether or not to have a fuel drain:

  1. What level of Diesel have you put into the Hyundai, considering that the fuel tank capacity of the Hyundai i30 is normally around 53 litres?
    1. A modest quantity of Diesel, something like 2.65 litres of Diesel in a Petrol i30 will generally not necessarily be a huge problem. Experience has proven to us that anything less than 2.65 litres (5% of the total fuel tank volume) is in many instances able to be completely diluted by means of wholly filling the rest of the tank with the appropriate fuel.
It is relatively uncommon to find an automobile suffering from problems because of under 5% incorrect fuel contamination. Do not forget that it is very infrequently found - certainly not impossible to encounter. There are actually some cars that don't stand any quantity of fuel contamination whatsoever.
    2. Anywhere between 2.65 and 5.3 litres of Diesel in the Hyundai (5 to 10%) is more of a 50/50 situation. Our experience has confirmed that as many motorists get away with it as those who break down. When deciding on whether to risk it and just simply top it up bear in mind that it is the same as wagering everything on black - you've got a 50/50 possibility of it working out.
    3. Anything in excess of 5.3 litres of Diesel in your Petrol i30 should really straight away be drained because your likelihood of driving with this amount of contamination is probably below one in fifty - genuinely big odds.
  2. Put Diesel in a Petrol Hyundai and drove it: Have you seen any performance troubles after putting the bad fuel in your i30? If you have, have it drained regardless of the volume of Diesel or the contamination ratio. Still driving a vehicle that is already starting to suffer from the consequences of wrong fuel contamination can only result in increasing amounts of harm affecting the fuel system parts.
  3. Do you want security?
Then get it drained. No matter the contamination percentage, there is inevitably some amount of threat caused by operating a Petrol motor on Petrol contaminated with the incorrect fuel. Likely results of driving on the incorrect fuel include things like the motor not starting, running lumpy, loss in power, wearing of the high-pressure pump, worn or bunged injectors, and so forth. These are some of the most frequently seen Diesel in Petrol signs or symptoms, and in the event that you recognise any of them stop driving and get it drained immediately.

I put Diesel in a Petrol car and drove it. What do I do?

Answer

Turn off the car as soon as possible and call us. Continuing to run a vehicle on the wrong fuel can potentially damage it. We will be able to give you advice and assistance based on your circumstances

Will driving a Petrol car on Diesel cause damage to it?

Answer

It can. However, if the problem is caught and remedied quickly the risks will be minimal. Of the 1,500 vehicles we attend every month, less than 0.5% have suffered and substantial damage requiring parts replacement.

How much Diesel can I get away with in a Petrol car?

The safe answer is none. However you might be able to get away with a very low contamination ratio. That being said, we always highly recommend draining anything over a 5% contamination ratio asap.

I know about petrol in diesel, but what about Super Unleaded?

Answer

Putting Super Unleaded, or Shell V-Power, BP Ultimate Unleaded, etc, will have the exact same effect as putting regular unleaded petrol in your diesel car and will need to be drained out and flushed.

Will getting you to do a fuel drain void my warranty?

Answer

No! The EU Block Exemption Regulations clearly state that "the work can be carried out by as long as that garage uses manufacturer approved parts and correctly follows the manufacturer's service schedule."

Can I top it up with Petrol and add some 2-stroke oil?

Answer

This might work on some vehicles in some cases, but in the majority on instances it won't and you risk damaging the Lambda sensors as well as fuel pump and injectors, just as a regular misfuel.
