Jaguar Fuel Drain

ABOUT

Filling up with Diesel in a Petrol Jaguar is a very common mistake to make. And its solution depends on several different factors. If perhaps you would like to find out what you must do to sort it out then keep reading.
Here are the key factors to be aware of whenever determining whether to have a fuel drain:

  1. What level of Diesel have you put into the Jaguar, considering that the fuel tank capacity of the Jaguar xJ is usually about 81 litres?
    1. A modest quantity of Diesel, something like 4.05 litres of Diesel in a Petrol xJ will in most cases not necessarily be a major problem. Experience has proven to us that an amount less than 4.05 litres (approximately 5% of the total fuel tank capacity) is frequently able to be completely diluted by completely filling up the tank with the right fuel.
It's pretty unusual to encounter a vehicle going through difficulties with lower than 5% incorrect fuel contamination. Do not forget that it is rare - definitely not impossible to find. You will discover a few motor vehicles that won't stand any amount of fuel contamination in the slightest.
    2. Somewhere between 4.05 and 8.1 litres of Diesel in the Jaguar (5 to 10%) is a 50/50 scenario. Our practical experience has revealed that as many drivers get away with this as all those who break down. When you are deciding whether or not to chance it and basically top it up recognise that it is very much like gambling it all on black - you will have a 50/50 possibility of it working.
    3. Anything above 8.1 litres of Diesel in a Petrol xJ should really straightaway be drained out because your probability of succeeding with this level of contamination is more than likely lower than one in 50 - really big odds.
  2. Put Diesel in a Petrol Jaguar and drove it: Have you seen any kind of performance troubles as a result of putting the incorrect fuel in the xJ? If that's the case, get it drained irrespective of the volume of Diesel or even the contamination percentage. Still running a car that is beginning to suffer the effects of fuel contamination will just be responsible for progressively more damage affecting your fuel system.
  3. Do you want peace of mind?
Then simply just get it emptied. No matter the contamination percentage, there is always some extent of danger connected to driving a Petrol engine on fuel contaminated with the wrong fuel. Possible results of driving a car on the wrong fuel include the motor refusing to start, running unevenly, decrease in power, wearing of the high-pressure pump, worn or bunged injectors, and the like. These are a few of the most typical Diesel in Petrol signs and symptoms, and should you recognise any of them then stop and have it removed as soon as possible.

Do not simply have any jack-of-all-trades to attend your automobile. We are Jaguar experts and hold the certification and experience needed to make certain that you are back on the road with little hassle or trouble.

It can. However, if the problem is caught and remedied quickly the risks will be minimal. Of the 1,500 vehicles we attend every month, less than 0.5% have suffered and substantial damage requiring parts replacement.

Answer

Putting Super Unleaded, or Shell V-Power, BP Ultimate Unleaded, etc, will have the exact same effect as putting regular unleaded petrol in your diesel car and will need to be drained out and flushed.

Will getting you to do a fuel drain void my warranty?

Answer

No! The EU Block Exemption Regulations clearly state that "the work can be carried out by as long as that garage uses manufacturer approved parts and correctly follows the manufacturer's service schedule."

Can I top it up with Petrol and add some 2-stroke oil?

Answer

This might work on some vehicles in some cases, but in the majority on instances it won't and you risk damaging the Lambda sensors as well as fuel pump and injectors, just as a regular misfuel.
