Kia Fuel Drain

ABOUT

Filling up with Diesel in a Petrol Kia is a well-known problem. And exactly what you should do about it is based on an assortment of things. Assuming you would like to find out what you should do to fix it then read on.
These are the most important variables to think about whenever making a decision whether to get a fuel drain:

  1. What level of Diesel have you put in the Kia, taking into account that the fuel capacity of the Kia Sorento is usually roughly 80 litres?
    1. A small amount of Diesel, something like 4 litres of Diesel in a Petrol Sorento will more often than not not necessarily be a massive problem. Experience has proven to us that quantities under 4 litres (roughly 5% of the overall fuel tank) is often capable of being adequately diluted by thoroughly topping the rest of the tank with the right fuel.
It's relatively uncommon to encounter an automobile having problems because of less than 5% incorrect fuel contamination. Remember that it is infrequent - definitely not impossible to find. You can get some vehicles that will not stand any quantity of contamination at all.
    2. Somewhere between 4 and 8 litres of Diesel in the Kia (5 to 10%) is more of a 50/50 scenario. Our experience has shown that as many motorists get away with it as those people who don't. Whenever you are figuring out whether or not to risk it and simply fill it up consider that it is much like gambling it all on black - you have got a 50/50 possibility of it being ok.
    3. Anything above 8 litres of Diesel in your Petrol Sorento must promptly be drained out since your likelihood of driving with that quantity of contamination is probably below one in 50 - seriously huge odds.
  2. Put some Diesel in a Petrol Kia and drove it: Have you observed any kind of performance difficulties ever since putting the bad fuel in the Sorento? If you have, get it drained irrespective of the amount of Diesel or the contamination percentage. Continually driving a car that is currently starting to suffer from the effect of wrong fuel contamination can only result in more and more damage affecting your fuel system parts.
  3. Are you looking for security?
Then simply just get it removed. Regardless of contamination percentage, there is always some extent of risk in connection with driving a Petrol motor on Petrol contaminated with Diesel. Likely results of driving on the incorrect fuel normally include the engine not starting, running lumpy, losing power, wearing of the high-pressure pump, damaged or bunged injectors, and so on. These are a few of the most common Diesel in Petrol signs and symptoms, and should you recognise any of them then stop and have it drained right now.

It can. However, if the problem is caught and remedied quickly the risks will be minimal. Of the 1,500 vehicles we attend every month, less than 0.5% have suffered and substantial damage requiring parts replacement.

Putting Super Unleaded, or Shell V-Power, BP Ultimate Unleaded, etc, will have the exact same effect as putting regular unleaded petrol in your diesel car and will need to be drained out and flushed.

Will getting you to do a fuel drain void my warranty?

Answer

No! The EU Block Exemption Regulations clearly state that "the work can be carried out by as long as that garage uses manufacturer approved parts and correctly follows the manufacturer's service schedule."

Can I top it up with Petrol and add some 2-stroke oil?

Answer

This might work on some vehicles in some cases, but in the majority on instances it won't and you risk damaging the Lambda sensors as well as fuel pump and injectors, just as a regular misfuel.
