Land Rover Fuel Drain

ABOUT

Putting Diesel in a Petrol Land Rover is a fairly typical mistake. And its remedy varies according to an assortment of things. Assuming you would like to find out what you have to do to sort it out then continue reading.
Let us discuss the most important variables to think about when choosing whether or not to get it drained:

  1. Exactly how much Diesel have you put in the Land Rover, taking into account that the fuel tank capacity of your Land Rover Discovery is most likely roughly 93 litres?
    1. Hardly any Diesel, less than 4.65 litres of Diesel in a Petrol Discovery will in most cases not be a big problem. Experience has proven to us that an amount under 4.65 litres (which is close to 5% of the entire fuel tank) is in many instances capable of being sufficiently diluted by thoroughly topping up the rest of the tank with the appropriate fuel.
It's pretty uncommon to encounter a car going through problems because of below 5% wrong fuel contamination. Bear in mind that it's rare - in no way impossible to find. You can get some cars that won't stand any level of contamination in the slightest.
    2. Between 4.65 and 9.3 litres of Diesel in the Land Rover (from 5 to 10%) is a 50/50 condition. Our practical experience has demonstrated that as many drivers get away with this as those people who break down. Any time you're trying to decide whether to chance it and just top it up recognise that it is very much like wagering it all on black - you have got a 50/50 chance of it working out.
    3. Anything above 9.3 litres of Diesel in your Petrol Discovery should promptly be removed as your probability of getting away with this level of contamination is probably lower than one in 50 - genuinely long odds.
  2. Put Diesel in a Petrol Land Rover and drove it: Have you spotted any kind of performance difficulties after putting the bad fuel in the Discovery? In that case, have it drained regardless of the quantity of Diesel or the contamination ratio. Continuing to drive driving a motor vehicle that is already beginning to suffer the effect of fuel contamination can definitely cause more and more harm being done to the fuel system parts.
  3. Are you interested in reassurance?
In that case get it emptied. Whatever the contamination percentage, there is always a certain level of danger connected with driving a Petrol motor on fuel contaminated with Diesel. Likely implications of driving a car on the wrong fuel normally include the engine refusing to start, running lumpy, loss in power, wearing of the high-pressure pump, damaged or blocked injectors, etc. These are several of the commonest Diesel in Petrol signs or symptoms, and if you detect any of them stop and have it removed right away.

No! The EU Block Exemption Regulations clearly state that "the work can be carried out by as long as that garage uses manufacturer approved parts and correctly follows the manufacturer's service schedule."

Can I top it up with Petrol and add some 2-stroke oil?

Answer

This might work on some vehicles in some cases, but in the majority on instances it won't and you risk damaging the Lambda sensors as well as fuel pump and injectors, just as a regular misfuel.
