Land Rover Fuel Drain

ABOUT

Putting Diesel in a Petrol Land Rover is a well-known error. And what you should do about it depends on several different things. Assuming you would like to know what to do about this then continue reading.
Listed here are the main variables to keep in mind when deciding on whether to have your car drained:

  1. Exactly how much Diesel have you put in to the Land Rover, taking into account that the fuel tank capacity of your Land Rover Range Rover Evoque is usually about 60 litres?
    1. A modest amount of Diesel, as little as 3 litres of Diesel in a Petrol Range Rover Evoque will more often than not not necessarily be a huge problem. Experience has shown us that quantities less than 3 litres (which is roughly 5% of the total fuel tank) is quite often capable of being sufficiently diluted by means of thoroughly filling up the remainder of the tank with the right fuel.
It's pretty rare to encounter a motor vehicle suffering from problems due to less than 5% incorrect fuel contamination. Be aware that it's infrequently found - certainly not impossible to encounter. There are actually a few vehicles that won't endure any amount of contamination whatsoever.
    2. Between 3 and 6 litres of Diesel in the Land Rover (5 to 10%) is more of a 50/50 condition. Our working experience has revealed that as many people get away with it as all those who don't. Any time you're deciding on whether to risk it and basically top it up recognise that it is just like gambling all of it on black - you have a 50/50 chance of it working out.
    3. Anything above 6 litres of Diesel in a Petrol Range Rover Evoque should right away be drained seeing that your likelihood of driving with this quantity of contamination is very likely below one in fifty - seriously long odds.
  2. Put Diesel in a Petrol Land Rover and drove it: Have you detected any kind of performance concerns ever since putting the wrong fuel in the Range Rover Evoque? If so, have it removed no matter the amount of Diesel or the contamination ratio. Still running a motor vehicle that is already starting to suffer the effect of fuel contamination will likely be responsible for increasing amounts of damage being caused to the fuel system.
  3. Do you want assurance?
In that case get it emptied. No matter the contamination percentage, there is always a certain level of risk resulting from operating a Petrol vehicle on Petrol contaminated with the wrong fuel. Probable results of driving a vehicle on the incorrect fuel can include the motor not starting, running unevenly, reduced power, degradation of the high-pressure pump, worn out or blocked injectors, and so forth. These are several of the most common Diesel in Petrol signs and symptoms, and in the event that you notice any of them then stop and get it removed right now.

Refrain from having any jack-of-all-trades to try to repair your vehicle. We are Land Rover specialists and hold the accreditation and knowledge required to make sure that you get back on the road with a minimum of hassle or trouble.

Diesel in Petrol FAQs

When someone has put Diesel in a Petrol car they have a few very common questions. So we have compiled a list of the most Frequently Asked Questions for you

I put Diesel in a Petrol car and drove it. What do I do?

Answer

Turn off the car as soon as possible and call us. Continuing to run a vehicle on the wrong fuel can potentially damage it. We will be able to give you advice and assistance based on your circumstances

Will driving a Petrol car on Diesel cause damage to it?

Answer

It can. However, if the problem is caught and remedied quickly the risks will be minimal. Of the 1,500 vehicles we attend every month, less than 0.5% have suffered and substantial damage requiring parts replacement.

How much Diesel can I get away with in a Petrol car?

Answer

The safe answer is none. However you might be able to get away with a very low contamination ratio. That being said, we always highly recommend draining anything over a 5% contamination ratio asap.

I know about petrol in diesel, but what about Super Unleaded?

Answer

Putting Super Unleaded, or Shell V-Power, BP Ultimate Unleaded, etc, will have the exact same effect as putting regular unleaded petrol in your diesel car and will need to be drained out and flushed.

Will getting you to do a fuel drain void my warranty?

Answer

No! The EU Block Exemption Regulations clearly state that "the work can be carried out by as long as that garage uses manufacturer approved parts and correctly follows the manufacturer's service schedule."

Can I top it up with Petrol and add some 2-stroke oil?

Answer

This might work on some vehicles in some cases, but in the majority on instances it won't and you risk damaging the Lambda sensors as well as fuel pump and injectors, just as a regular misfuel.
