Lexus Fuel Drain

ABOUT

Filling up with Diesel in a Petrol Lexus is a regular problem. And its remedy depends on several factors. Assuming you would like to find out what it is advisable to do about it then continue reading.
These are the most important factors to consider when making a decision whether to have it drained:

  1. What amount of Diesel did you put in the Lexus, bearing in mind that the fuel tank capacity of the Lexus IS 300h is in most cases around 66 litres?
    1. A small amount of Diesel, something like 3.3 litres of Diesel in a Petrol IS 300h will usually not really be a huge problem. Experience has demonstrated to us that anything less than 3.3 litres (almost 5% of the total fuel tank) is frequently able to be sufficiently diluted by entirely filling the remainder of the tank with Petrol.
It's highly unusual to find an automobile experiencing problems due to under 5% incorrect fuel contamination. Keep in mind that it's uncommon - definitely not impossible to encounter. There are certain motor vehicles that don't endure any degree of contamination at all.
    2. Anywhere between 3.3 and 6.6 litres of Diesel in the Lexus (5 to 10%) is a 50/50 condition. Our experience has revealed that as many motorists get away with it as those people who break down. When you are deciding upon whether to chance it and just simply top it up bear in mind that it is very much like betting your car on black - you have a 50/50 possibility of it being ok.
    3. Anything above 6.6 litres of Diesel in your Petrol IS 300h must right away be drained out since your likelihood of getting away with that amount of contamination is more than likely lower than one in fifty - extremely long odds.
  2. Put Diesel in a Petrol Lexus and drove it: Have you detected any performance issues ever since putting the wrong fuel in the IS 300h? If you have, get it drained regardless of the quantity of Diesel or the contamination ratio. Still running a motor vehicle that is already starting to suffer from the effects of wrong fuel contamination will probably only be responsible for even more harm being caused to your fuel system components.
  3. Would you like reassurance?
Then simply just get it removed. Regardless of contamination percentage, there is always some extent of risk resulting from operating a Petrol engine on Petrol contaminated with the incorrect fuel. Possible implications of driving on the wrong fuel normally include the motor refusing to start, running unevenly, loss of power, wearing of the high-pressure pump, worn or bunged injectors, and the like. These are a few of the most frequently seen Diesel in Petrol signs or symptoms, and should you detect any of them then stop and get it removed as soon as possible.

No! The EU Block Exemption Regulations clearly state that "the work can be carried out by as long as that garage uses manufacturer approved parts and correctly follows the manufacturer's service schedule."

Can I top it up with Petrol and add some 2-stroke oil?

Answer

This might work on some vehicles in some cases, but in the majority on instances it won't and you risk damaging the Lambda sensors as well as fuel pump and injectors, just as a regular misfuel.
