Lexus Fuel Drain

ABOUT

Putting Diesel in a Petrol Lexus is a common mistake. And what you need to do about it will depend on a variety of factors. If perhaps you would like to know what to do about this then stay with me.
Listed here the most important variables to keep in mind when figuring out whether or not to have a fuel drain:

  1. How much Diesel did you put in the Lexus, keeping in mind that the fuel tank capacity of your Lexus LS 460 AWD is usually around 84 litres?
    1. A small quantity of Diesel, something like 4.2 litres of Diesel in a Petrol LS 460 AWD will more often than not not necessarily be a significant problem. Experience has taught us that an amount less than 4.2 litres (about 5% of the entire fuel tank) is quite often capable of being sufficiently diluted by thoroughly filling up the tank with Petrol.
It's rather unusual to come across a vehicle experiencing difficulties because of less than 5% wrong fuel contamination. Please remember it's unusual - in no way impossible to find. There are some motor vehicles that don't stand any level of contamination in the slightest.
    2. Somewhere between 4.2 and 8.4 litres of Diesel in the Lexus (5 to 10%) is really a 50/50 scenario. Our experience has revealed that as many motorists get away with this as all those who break down. When you are trying to decide whether or not to risk it and simply fill it up remember that it is very much like betting all of it on black - you have got a 50/50 possibility of it being ok.
    3. Anything in excess of 8.4 litres of Diesel in a Petrol LS 460 AWD must straightaway be drained out because your likelihood of driving with that amount of contamination is more than likely lower than one in fifty - genuinely big odds.
  2. Put some Diesel in a Petrol Lexus and drove it: Have you spotted any kind of performance difficulties as a result of putting the incorrect fuel in your LS 460 AWD? In that case, get it drained no matter the amount of Diesel or even the contamination ratio. Continually driving a car that is already beginning to suffer from the effect of wrong fuel contamination will probably only lead to even more damage being caused to your fuel system components.
  3. Are you interested in assurance?
You should get it drained. Regardless of contamination ratio, there is inevitably some degree of risk associated with running a Petrol vehicle on fuel contaminated with the incorrect fuel. Probable results of driving on the incorrect fuel include things like the motor not starting, running unevenly, loss of power, wearing of the high-pressure pump, damaged or blocked injectors, and so forth. These are several of the most frequently seen Diesel in Petrol warning signs, and should you detect any of them then stop and have it removed immediately.

Do not simply have any unqualified so-and-so to try to repair your car. We are Lexus experts and have the certification and knowledge required to ensure you get back on the road with little hassle or trouble.

Diesel in Petrol FAQs

When someone has put Diesel in a Petrol car they have a few very common questions. So we have compiled a list of the most Frequently Asked Questions for you

I put Diesel in a Petrol car and drove it. What do I do?

Answer

Turn off the car as soon as possible and call us. Continuing to run a vehicle on the wrong fuel can potentially damage it. We will be able to give you advice and assistance based on your circumstances

Will driving a Petrol car on Diesel cause damage to it?

Answer

It can. However, if the problem is caught and remedied quickly the risks will be minimal. Of the 1,500 vehicles we attend every month, less than 0.5% have suffered and substantial damage requiring parts replacement.

How much Diesel can I get away with in a Petrol car?

Answer

The safe answer is none. However you might be able to get away with a very low contamination ratio. That being said, we always highly recommend draining anything over a 5% contamination ratio asap.

I know about petrol in diesel, but what about Super Unleaded?

Answer

Putting Super Unleaded, or Shell V-Power, BP Ultimate Unleaded, etc, will have the exact same effect as putting regular unleaded petrol in your diesel car and will need to be drained out and flushed.

Will getting you to do a fuel drain void my warranty?

Answer

No! The EU Block Exemption Regulations clearly state that "the work can be carried out by as long as that garage uses manufacturer approved parts and correctly follows the manufacturer's service schedule."

Can I top it up with Petrol and add some 2-stroke oil?

Answer

This might work on some vehicles in some cases, but in the majority on instances it won't and you risk damaging the Lambda sensors as well as fuel pump and injectors, just as a regular misfuel.
