Mercedes Fuel Drain

ABOUT

Filling Diesel in a Petrol Mercedes is a regular problem. And exactly what you have to do about it depends upon a variety of factors. Assuming you want to know what you have to do about it then keep on reading.
Listed here the key factors to keep in mind when deciding on whether to have the car drained:

  1. What level of Diesel have you put in the Mercedes, keeping in mind that the fuel capacity of the Mercedes E300 CGI is probably around 59 litres?
    1. A modest amount of Diesel, as little as 2.95 litres of Diesel in a Petrol E300 CGI will quite often not be a major problem. Experience has proven to us that quantities less than 2.95 litres (which is roughly 5% of the whole fuel tank) is very often able to be sufficiently diluted by means of entirely topping up the remainder of the tank with Petrol.
It is pretty unusual to find a car experiencing issues with less than 5% incorrect fuel contamination. Be aware that it's unusual - not impossible to find. You can get a few cars that won't stand any degree of fuel contamination in the slightest.
    2. In between 2.95 and 5.9 litres of Diesel in the Mercedes (from 5 to 10%) is really a 50/50 condition. Our practical experience demonstrates that as many people get away with this as those who don't. When deciding upon whether or not to chance it and just simply fill it up recognise that it is much like wagering everything on black - you will have a 50/50 chance of it working out.
    3. Anything over 5.9 litres of Diesel in a Petrol E300 CGI should as soon as possible be removed because your likelihood of driving with that level of contamination is undoubtedly less than one in 50 - really big odds.
  2. Put Diesel in a Petrol Mercedes and drove it: Have you seen any performance problems ever since putting the incorrect fuel in the E300 CGI? If so, have it removed irrespective of the volume of Diesel or even the contamination percentage. Continuing to drive running a motor vehicle that is starting to suffer from the consequences of fuel contamination can likely cause more harm being caused to your fuel system.
  3. Are you looking for security?
You should get it removed. Whatever the contamination ratio, there is invariably some amount of danger connected to running a Petrol motor on Petrol contaminated with Diesel. Likely results of driving on the wrong fuel include things like the motor refusing to start, running unevenly, reduced power, wearing of the high-pressure pump, worn or bunged injectors, and the like. These are some of the commonest Diesel in Petrol symptoms, and should you observe any of them cease driving and have it removed right away.

Stay away from getting any unqualified mechanic to attend your car. We are Mercedes experts and have got the qualifications and expertise needed to make sure that you are back on the road with a minimum of hassle or trouble.

Diesel in Petrol FAQs

When someone has put Diesel in a Petrol car they have a few very common questions. So we have compiled a list of the most Frequently Asked Questions for you

I put Diesel in a Petrol car and drove it. What do I do?

Answer

Turn off the car as soon as possible and call us. Continuing to run a vehicle on the wrong fuel can potentially damage it. We will be able to give you advice and assistance based on your circumstances

Will driving a Petrol car on Diesel cause damage to it?

Answer

It can. However, if the problem is caught and remedied quickly the risks will be minimal. Of the 1,500 vehicles we attend every month, less than 0.5% have suffered and substantial damage requiring parts replacement.

How much Diesel can I get away with in a Petrol car?

Answer

The safe answer is none. However you might be able to get away with a very low contamination ratio. That being said, we always highly recommend draining anything over a 5% contamination ratio asap.

I know about petrol in diesel, but what about Super Unleaded?

Answer

Putting Super Unleaded, or Shell V-Power, BP Ultimate Unleaded, etc, will have the exact same effect as putting regular unleaded petrol in your diesel car and will need to be drained out and flushed.

Will getting you to do a fuel drain void my warranty?

Answer

No! The EU Block Exemption Regulations clearly state that "the work can be carried out by as long as that garage uses manufacturer approved parts and correctly follows the manufacturer's service schedule."

Can I top it up with Petrol and add some 2-stroke oil?

Answer

This might work on some vehicles in some cases, but in the majority on instances it won't and you risk damaging the Lambda sensors as well as fuel pump and injectors, just as a regular misfuel.
