Mercedes Fuel Drain

Putting Diesel in a Petrol Mercedes is a well-known error. And what you have to do about it depends on a number of things. Assuming you would like to know what it is advisable to do about this then keep on reading.
Here are the most crucial variables to keep in mind when figuring out whether to have your car drained:

  1. What level of Diesel have you put in the Mercedes, taking into consideration that the fuel tank capacity of your Mercedes ML 350 is most likely about 83 litres?
    1. A modest amount of Diesel, less than 4.15 litres of Diesel in a Petrol ML 350 will usually not be a major problem. Experience has proven to us that an amount under 4.15 litres (which is roughly 5% of the entire fuel tank capacity) is sometimes capable of being completely diluted simply by thoroughly filling up the tank with Petrol.
It is pretty unusual to find a motor vehicle experiencing problems with below 5% wrong fuel contamination. Keep in mind that it's infrequent - definitely not impossible to encounter. You can get a few vehicles that don't stand any level of contamination at all.
    2. Anywhere between 4.15 and 8.3 litres of Diesel in the Mercedes (5 to 10%) is a 50/50 scenario. Our working experience has shown us that as many motorists get away with this as those who break down. Any time you are trying to decide whether or not to chance it and just top it up consider that it is exactly like wagering everything on black - you have a 50/50 possibility of it being ok.
    3. Anything in excess of 8.3 litres of Diesel in your Petrol ML 350 ought to straight away be drained because your likelihood of succeeding with that quantity of contamination is almost certainly lower than one in 50 - truly big odds.
  2. Put some Diesel in a Petrol Mercedes and drove it: Have you seen any kind of performance difficulties as a result of putting the wrong fuel in the ML 350? If you have, have it drained no matter the volume of Diesel or even the contamination percentage. Continually running a car that is already starting to suffer from the effects of wrong fuel contamination can just bring about more damage being caused to your fuel system.
  3. Do you need security?
Simply get it emptied. Regardless of the contamination ratio, there is always some degree of risk connected to running a Petrol motor on Petrol contaminated with Diesel. Possible implications of driving a vehicle on the wrong fuel include the motor refusing to start, running lumpy, decrease in power, degradation of the high-pressure pump, worn or bunged injectors, and the like. These are several of the most typical Diesel in Petrol warning signs, and if you notice any of them stop driving and have it drained as soon as possible.

Refrain from having any untrained so-and-so to try to repair your vehicle. We are Mercedes experts and possess the certification and practical experience needed to ensure you are back on the road with a minimum of hassle or trouble.

I put Diesel in a Petrol car and drove it. What do I do?

Turn off the car as soon as possible and call us. Continuing to run a vehicle on the wrong fuel can potentially damage it. We will be able to give you advice and assistance based on your circumstances

Will driving a Petrol car on Diesel cause damage to it?

It can. However, if the problem is caught and remedied quickly the risks will be minimal. Of the 1,500 vehicles we attend every month, less than 0.5% have suffered and substantial damage requiring parts replacement.

How much Diesel can I get away with in a Petrol car?

The safe answer is none. However you might be able to get away with a very low contamination ratio. That being said, we always highly recommend draining anything over a 5% contamination ratio asap.

I know about petrol in diesel, but what about Super Unleaded?

Putting Super Unleaded, or Shell V-Power, BP Ultimate Unleaded, etc, will have the exact same effect as putting regular unleaded petrol in your diesel car and will need to be drained out and flushed.

Will getting you to do a fuel drain void my warranty?

No! The EU Block Exemption Regulations clearly state that "the work can be carried out by as long as that garage uses manufacturer approved parts and correctly follows the manufacturer's service schedule."

Can I top it up with Petrol and add some 2-stroke oil?

This might work on some vehicles in some cases, but in the majority on instances it won't and you risk damaging the Lambda sensors as well as fuel pump and injectors, just as a regular misfuel.
