Mercedes Fuel Drain

ABOUT

Putting Diesel in a Petrol Mercedes is a usual error. And its remedy will depend on several factors. Assuming you would like to know what it is best to do to fix it then continue reading.
These are the main variables to be aware of when making a decision whether to have a fuel drain:

  1. How much Diesel did you put in the Mercedes, taking into consideration that the fuel tank capacity of the Mercedes ML 430 is in most cases about 70 litres?
    1. A small quantity of Diesel, something like 3.5 litres of Diesel in a Petrol ML 430 will in most cases not be a huge problem. Experience has demonstrated to us that an amount less than 3.5 litres (which is approximately 5% of the fuel tank volume) is frequently able to be adequately diluted by thoroughly topping up the remainder of the tank with the appropriate fuel.
It's relatively uncommon to find a vehicle suffering from difficulties because of below 5% incorrect fuel contamination. Bear in mind that it is very unusual - in no way impossible to encounter. There are a number of cars that won't endure any quantity of fuel contamination whatsoever.
    2. Anywhere between 3.5 and 7 litres of Diesel in the Mercedes (5 to 10%) is really a 50/50 condition. Our experience has demonstrated that as many people get away with it as all those who break down. Any time you're deciding whether to risk it and just top it up consider that it is just like betting everything on black - you will have a 50/50 possibility of it working.
    3. Anything above 7 litres of Diesel in a Petrol ML 430 should as soon as possible be removed seeing as your probability of getting away with this amount of contamination is more than likely lower than one in 50 - genuinely big odds.
  2. Put Diesel in a Petrol Mercedes and drove it: Have you seen any performance difficulties ever since putting the wrong fuel in the ML 430? If so, have it emptied no matter the volume of Diesel or the contamination ratio. Proceeding to run driving an automobile that is already starting to suffer from the consequences of fuel contamination will only cause even more harm affecting the fuel system.
  3. Do you want reassurance?
You should get it drained. Whatever the contamination percentage, there is always some degree of danger caused by driving a Petrol motor on Petrol contaminated with Diesel. Possible consequences of driving a vehicle on the incorrect fuel normally include the motor refusing to start, running lumpy, loss of power, degradation of the high-pressure pump, damaged or clogged injectors, etc. These are some of the most common Diesel in Petrol signs and symptoms, and should you observe any of them stop and get it drained as soon as possible.

Putting Super Unleaded, or Shell V-Power, BP Ultimate Unleaded, etc, will have the exact same effect as putting regular unleaded petrol in your diesel car and will need to be drained out and flushed.

Will getting you to do a fuel drain void my warranty?

Answer

No! The EU Block Exemption Regulations clearly state that "the work can be carried out by as long as that garage uses manufacturer approved parts and correctly follows the manufacturer's service schedule."

Can I top it up with Petrol and add some 2-stroke oil?

Answer

This might work on some vehicles in some cases, but in the majority on instances it won't and you risk damaging the Lambda sensors as well as fuel pump and injectors, just as a regular misfuel.
