Mercedes Fuel Drain

Filling up with Diesel in a Petrol Mercedes is a regularly occurring problem. And what you have to do about it is based on a few factors. Assuming you want to know what to do to sort it out then stay with me.
These are the key factors to take into account whenever deciding whether to get a fuel drain:

  1. What amount of Diesel did you put into the Mercedes, considering that the fuel tank capacity of your Mercedes SL 600 is normally roughly 80 litres?
    1. A small quantity of Diesel, something like 4 litres of Diesel in a Petrol SL 600 will in most cases not necessarily be a significant problem. Experience has shown us that anything less than 4 litres (roughly 5% of the overall fuel tank capacity) is in many instances capable of being completely diluted by means of entirely filling up the rest of the tank with Petrol.
It's very unusual to come across an automobile experiencing problems because of under 5% incorrect fuel contamination. Remember that it's infrequently found - certainly not impossible to encounter. There are some vehicles that will not endure any degree of contamination in the slightest.
    2. Anywhere between 4 and 8 litres of Diesel in the Mercedes (from 5 to 10%) is a 50/50 scenario. Our practical experience has shown us that as many motorists get away with it as those who don't. Any time you're deciding whether or not to chance it and basically top it up recognise that it is just like betting everything on black - you've got a 50/50 chance of it working.
    3. Anything over 8 litres of Diesel in your Petrol SL 600 should promptly be removed because your likelihood of getting away with that amount of contamination is more than likely below one in fifty - seriously long odds.
  2. Put Diesel in a Petrol Mercedes and drove it: Have you seen any performance issues since putting the incorrect fuel in the SL 600? If so, get it removed no matter the volume of Diesel or the contamination percentage. Continuing to run driving an automobile that is currently starting to suffer the effects of wrong fuel contamination will probably typically cause progressively more damage being done to your fuel system.
  3. Do you need peace of mind?
In that case get it emptied. No matter the contamination percentage, there is invariably some amount of risk connected with operating a Petrol vehicle on fuel contaminated with the incorrect fuel. Likely consequences of driving on the incorrect fuel include the motor refusing to start, running lumpy, decrease in power, degradation of the high-pressure pump, worn or bunged injectors, and the like. These are some of the most frequently seen Diesel in Petrol warning signs, and if you recognise any of them then stop and have it drained as soon as possible.

Refrain from having any unqualified mechanic to try to repair your automobile. We are Mercedes experts and possess the credentials and practical experience needed to make certain you are back on the road with minimal hassle or worry.

Diesel in Petrol Questions

When someone has put Diesel in a Petrol car they have a few very common questions. So we have compiled a list of the most Frequently Asked Questions for you

I put Diesel in a Petrol car and drove it. What do I do?

Turn off the car as soon as possible and call us. Continuing to run a vehicle on the wrong fuel can potentially damage it. We will be able to give you advice and assistance based on your circumstances

Will driving a Petrol car on Diesel cause damage to it?

It can. However, if the problem is caught and remedied quickly the risks will be minimal. Of the 1,500 vehicles we attend every month, less than 0.5% have suffered and substantial damage requiring parts replacement.

How much Diesel can I get away with in a Petrol car?

The safe answer is none. However you might be able to get away with a very low contamination ratio. That being said, we always highly recommend draining anything over a 5% contamination ratio asap.

I know about petrol in diesel, but what about Super Unleaded?

Putting Super Unleaded, or Shell V-Power, BP Ultimate Unleaded, etc, will have the exact same effect as putting regular unleaded petrol in your diesel car and will need to be drained out and flushed.

Will getting you to do a fuel drain void my warranty?

No! The EU Block Exemption Regulations clearly state that "the work can be carried out by as long as that garage uses manufacturer approved parts and correctly follows the manufacturer's service schedule."

Can I top it up with Petrol and add some 2-stroke oil?

This might work on some vehicles in some cases, but in the majority on instances it won't and you risk damaging the Lambda sensors as well as fuel pump and injectors, just as a regular misfuel.
