Mitsubishi Fuel Drain

ABOUT

Putting Diesel in a Petrol Mitsubishi is a regular problem. And its solution will depend on a few things. If perhaps you would like to find out what to do about this then read on.
Here are the most crucial factors to be aware of whenever deciding on whether or not to get it drained:

  1. What amount of Diesel have you put in to the Mitsubishi, bearing in mind that the fuel tank capacity of your Mitsubishi 3000 GT is most likely roughly 75 litres?
    1. Hardly any Diesel, less than 3.75 litres of Diesel in a Petrol 3000 GT will in most cases not necessarily be a big problem. Experience has shown us that anything under 3.75 litres (which is about 5% of the entire fuel tank) is often capable of being adequately diluted simply by wholly topping the remainder of the tank with Petrol.
It's pretty unusual to come across a vehicle suffering from difficulties due to less than 5% wrong fuel contamination. Remember that it is very unusual - in no way impossible to find. There are a few motor vehicles that won't stand any amount of fuel contamination whatsoever.
    2. Somewhere between 3.75 and 7.5 litres of Diesel in the Mitsubishi (from 5 to 10%) is more of a 50/50 situation. Our practical experience has confirmed that as many people get away with it as those people who break down. Whenever figuring out whether or not to risk it and simply top it up recognise that it is very much like gambling it all on black - you have got a 50/50 chance of it working out.
    3. Anything in excess of 7.5 litres of Diesel in your Petrol 3000 GT ought to immediately be drained out seeing as your probability of succeeding with that quantity of contamination is probably lower than one in 50 - seriously huge odds.
  2. Put Diesel in a Petrol Mitsubishi and drove it: Have you detected any performance problems since putting the wrong fuel in your 3000 GT? If you have, have it drained irrespective of the amount of Diesel or even the contamination percentage. Continuing to run driving an automobile that is now starting to suffer from the effects of fuel contamination will probably likely bring about even more damage affecting the fuel system parts.
  3. Do you want peace of mind?
In that case get it removed. Whatever the contamination percentage, there is invariably some extent of danger affiliated with operating a Petrol engine on fuel contaminated with the wrong fuel. Probable consequences of driving on the wrong fuel can include the motor refusing to start, running lumpy, lack of power, degradation of the high-pressure pump, worn or clogged injectors, and the like. These are a few of the most frequently seen Diesel in Petrol warning signs, and should you observe any of them then stop driving and have it removed as soon as possible.

Turn off the car as soon as possible and call us. Continuing to run a vehicle on the wrong fuel can potentially damage it. We will be able to give you advice and assistance based on your circumstances

Will driving a Petrol car on Diesel cause damage to it?

Answer

It can. However, if the problem is caught and remedied quickly the risks will be minimal. Of the 1,500 vehicles we attend every month, less than 0.5% have suffered and substantial damage requiring parts replacement.

Answer

Putting Super Unleaded, or Shell V-Power, BP Ultimate Unleaded, etc, will have the exact same effect as putting regular unleaded petrol in your diesel car and will need to be drained out and flushed.

Will getting you to do a fuel drain void my warranty?

Answer

No! The EU Block Exemption Regulations clearly state that "the work can be carried out by as long as that garage uses manufacturer approved parts and correctly follows the manufacturer's service schedule."

Can I top it up with Petrol and add some 2-stroke oil?

Answer

This might work on some vehicles in some cases, but in the majority on instances it won't and you risk damaging the Lambda sensors as well as fuel pump and injectors, just as a regular misfuel.
