Renault Fuel Drain

ABOUT

Putting Diesel in a Petrol Renault is a common mistake to make. And its solution depends upon a number of things. In case you want to know what you should do about this then keep on reading.
Let us discuss the most important factors to be aware of whenever figuring out whether or not to have a fuel drain:

  1. Exactly how much Diesel have you put in to the Renault, taking into account that the fuel tank capacity of the Renault Latitude is most likely roughly 70 litres?
    1. A tiny amount of Diesel, something like 3.5 litres of Diesel in a Petrol Latitude will generally not be a massive problem. Experience has proven to us that quantities under 3.5 litres (which is close to 5% of the overall fuel tank capacity) is very often able to be completely diluted simply by thoroughly filling up the tank with the correct fuel.
It's extremely rare to encounter a car experiencing problems with lower than 5% incorrect fuel contamination. Keep in mind it is infrequent - certainly not impossible to find. You will discover certain motor vehicles that won't stand any level of contamination at all.
    2. Between 3.5 and 7 litres of Diesel in the Renault (from 5 to 10%) is more of a 50/50 scenario. Our expertise has revealed that as many motorists get away with it as those people who break down. Any time you are deciding upon whether or not to risk it and just simply fill it up consider that it is just like wagering your car on black - you've got a 50/50 possibility of it being ok.
    3. Anything more than 7 litres of Diesel in your Petrol Latitude should straightaway be removed seeing that your probability of succeeding with that level of contamination is in all likelihood below one in fifty - definitely huge odds.
  2. Put Diesel in a Petrol Renault and drove it: Have you noted any performance concerns since putting the wrong fuel in the Latitude? If you have, have it drained no matter the volume of Diesel or the contamination ratio. Continuing to drive driving a car that is now starting to suffer the consequences of wrong fuel contamination can only end up in more and more damage being caused to the fuel system components.
  3. Are you looking for security?
You should get it removed. Regardless of contamination ratio, there is invariably a certain level of danger associated with operating a Petrol motor on Petrol contaminated with the wrong fuel. Probable results of driving a car on the incorrect fuel normally include the engine not starting, running unevenly, reduced power, wearing of the high-pressure pump, worn or blocked injectors, and the like. These are several of the most typical Diesel in Petrol signs or symptoms, and should you recognise any of them stop driving and have it drained immediately.

Refrain from getting any unqualified mechanic to attend your automobile. We are Renault experts and have got the certification and knowledge required to make sure that you get back on the road with minimal hassle or worry.

Diesel in Petrol FAQs

When someone has put Diesel in a Petrol car they have a few very common questions. So we have compiled a list of the most Frequently Asked Questions for you

I put Diesel in a Petrol car and drove it. What do I do?

Answer

Turn off the car as soon as possible and call us. Continuing to run a vehicle on the wrong fuel can potentially damage it. We will be able to give you advice and assistance based on your circumstances

Will driving a Petrol car on Diesel cause damage to it?

Answer

It can. However, if the problem is caught and remedied quickly the risks will be minimal. Of the 1,500 vehicles we attend every month, less than 0.5% have suffered and substantial damage requiring parts replacement.

How much Diesel can I get away with in a Petrol car?

Answer

The safe answer is none. However you might be able to get away with a very low contamination ratio. That being said, we always highly recommend draining anything over a 5% contamination ratio asap.

I know about petrol in diesel, but what about Super Unleaded?

Answer

Putting Super Unleaded, or Shell V-Power, BP Ultimate Unleaded, etc, will have the exact same effect as putting regular unleaded petrol in your diesel car and will need to be drained out and flushed.

Will getting you to do a fuel drain void my warranty?

Answer

No! The EU Block Exemption Regulations clearly state that "the work can be carried out by as long as that garage uses manufacturer approved parts and correctly follows the manufacturer's service schedule."

Can I top it up with Petrol and add some 2-stroke oil?

Answer

This might work on some vehicles in some cases, but in the majority on instances it won't and you risk damaging the Lambda sensors as well as fuel pump and injectors, just as a regular misfuel.
