Rolls-Royce Fuel Drain

ABOUT

Filling up with Diesel in a Petrol Rolls-Royce is a well-known error. And its solution depends upon various things. If you want to know what you need to do about it then stay with me.
Here are the main variables to keep in mind when figuring out whether or not to get a fuel drain:

  1. What amount of Diesel have you put into the Rolls-Royce, keeping in mind that the fuel capacity of the Rolls-Royce Silver Seraph is usually approximately 94 litres?
    1. Hardly any Diesel, as little as 4.7 litres of Diesel in a Petrol Silver Seraph will normally not really be a significant problem. Experience has demonstrated to us that an amount under 4.7 litres (which is 5% of the fuel tank volume) is quite often capable of being completely diluted by completely topping up the remainder of the tank with the right fuel.
It is highly unusual to encounter a motor vehicle having issues with lower than 5% incorrect fuel contamination. Please remember it's infrequent - not impossible to find. You can get certain motor vehicles that will not stand any level of contamination whatsoever.
    2. Somewhere between 4.7 and 9.4 litres of Diesel in the Rolls-Royce (from 5 to 10%) is more of a 50/50 situation. Our working experience has confirmed that as many people get away with it as those who break down. Whenever you are trying to decide whether or not to risk it and simply top it up recognise that it is the same thing as wagering your car on black - you will have a 50/50 possibility of it being ok.
    3. Anything over 9.4 litres of Diesel in a Petrol Silver Seraph should really straightaway be removed seeing that your likelihood of getting away with that level of contamination is very likely lower than one in fifty - really long odds.
  2. Put some Diesel in a Petrol Rolls-Royce and drove it: Have you noted any performance concerns ever since putting the wrong fuel in your Silver Seraph? If that's the case, have it emptied regardless of the amount of Diesel or the contamination ratio. Proceeding to drive running a vehicle that is now starting to suffer the effect of wrong fuel contamination can only lead to even more damage being caused to your fuel system parts.
  3. Do you need reassurance?
You should get it drained. Regardless of contamination percentage, there is always some amount of risk associated with operating a Petrol motor on fuel contaminated with Diesel. Likely outcomes of driving a vehicle on the wrong fuel normally include the motor refusing to start, running lumpy, decrease in power, degradation of the high-pressure pump, damaged or blocked injectors, and so on. These are some of the most common Diesel in Petrol signs and symptoms, and should you notice any of them stop and get it removed as soon as possible.

Diesel in Petrol FAQs

When someone has put Diesel in a Petrol car they have a few very common questions. So we have compiled a list of the most Frequently Asked Questions for you

I put Diesel in a Petrol car and drove it. What do I do?

Answer

Turn off the car as soon as possible and call us. Continuing to run a vehicle on the wrong fuel can potentially damage it. We will be able to give you advice and assistance based on your circumstances

Will driving a Petrol car on Diesel cause damage to it?

Answer

It can. However, if the problem is caught and remedied quickly the risks will be minimal. Of the 1,500 vehicles we attend every month, less than 0.5% have suffered and substantial damage requiring parts replacement.

How much Diesel can I get away with in a Petrol car?

Answer

The safe answer is none. However you might be able to get away with a very low contamination ratio. That being said, we always highly recommend draining anything over a 5% contamination ratio asap.

I know about petrol in diesel, but what about Super Unleaded?

Answer

Putting Super Unleaded, or Shell V-Power, BP Ultimate Unleaded, etc, will have the exact same effect as putting regular unleaded petrol in your diesel car and will need to be drained out and flushed.

Will getting you to do a fuel drain void my warranty?

Answer

No! The EU Block Exemption Regulations clearly state that "the work can be carried out by as long as that garage uses manufacturer approved parts and correctly follows the manufacturer's service schedule."

Can I top it up with Petrol and add some 2-stroke oil?

Answer

This might work on some vehicles in some cases, but in the majority on instances it won't and you risk damaging the Lambda sensors as well as fuel pump and injectors, just as a regular misfuel.
