Rover Fuel Drain

ABOUT

Filling up with Diesel in a Petrol Rover is a regularly occurring problem. And its solution will depend on an assortment of factors. If you want to know what you must do about it then please read on.
Listed here the main variables to take into account whenever deciding on whether or not to get your car drained:

  1. What amount of Diesel have you put into the Rover, bearing in mind that the fuel capacity of the Rover 420 is usually approximately 55 litres?
    1. Hardly any Diesel, as little as 2.75 litres of Diesel in a Petrol 420 will typically not really be a major problem. Experience has taught us that anything less than 2.75 litres (approximately 5% of the fuel tank volume) is often able to be sufficiently diluted by totally filling up the tank with the right fuel.
It is quite uncommon to encounter a vehicle going through issues because of lower than 5% wrong fuel contamination. Do not forget that it's rare - certainly not impossible to find. You can get some automobiles that don't stand any degree of fuel contamination whatsoever.
    2. In between 2.75 and 5.5 litres of Diesel in the Rover (from 5 to 10%) is a 50/50 condition. Our experience has demonstrated that as many drivers get away with this as those people who break down. When you are deciding upon whether or not to chance it and just fill it up bear in mind that it is the same thing as betting everything on black - you have a 50/50 possibility of it working.
    3. Anything above 5.5 litres of Diesel in a Petrol 420 really should immediately be drained as your likelihood of succeeding with that amount of contamination is more than likely less than one in 50 - really big odds.
  2. Put some Diesel in a Petrol Rover and drove it: Have you seen any performance difficulties since putting the bad fuel in the 420? If you have, have it drained no matter the amount of Diesel or the contamination ratio. Continuing to drive driving a motor vehicle that is currently starting to suffer from the effects of wrong fuel contamination will probably just bring about even more harm being done to the fuel system.
  3. Are you interested in peace of mind?
Then simply just get it removed. Regardless of the contamination percentage, there is always some amount of risk linked with operating a Petrol motor on fuel contaminated with the wrong fuel. Likely final outcomes of driving a car on the incorrect fuel can include the motor not starting, running lumpy, loss of power, degradation of the high-pressure pump, worn out or bunged injectors, and the like. These are several of the most typical Diesel in Petrol symptoms, and should you recognise any of them stop and have it removed asap.

Keep away from getting any unqualified so-and-so to try to repair your car. We are Rover experts and hold the skills and knowledge necessary to ensure that you are back on the road with minimal hassle or worry.

Turn off the car as soon as possible and call us. Continuing to run a vehicle on the wrong fuel can potentially damage it. We will be able to give you advice and assistance based on your circumstances

Will driving a Petrol car on Diesel cause damage to it?

Answer

It can. However, if the problem is caught and remedied quickly the risks will be minimal. Of the 1,500 vehicles we attend every month, less than 0.5% have suffered and substantial damage requiring parts replacement.

Answer

Putting Super Unleaded, or Shell V-Power, BP Ultimate Unleaded, etc, will have the exact same effect as putting regular unleaded petrol in your diesel car and will need to be drained out and flushed.

Will getting you to do a fuel drain void my warranty?

Answer

No! The EU Block Exemption Regulations clearly state that "the work can be carried out by as long as that garage uses manufacturer approved parts and correctly follows the manufacturer's service schedule."

Can I top it up with Petrol and add some 2-stroke oil?

Answer

This might work on some vehicles in some cases, but in the majority on instances it won't and you risk damaging the Lambda sensors as well as fuel pump and injectors, just as a regular misfuel.
