Rover Fuel Drain

ABOUT

Filling up with Diesel in a Petrol Rover is a common problem. And its remedy is dependent upon several factors. In case you would like to find out what you have to do to sort it out then stay with me.
Listed below are the most important variables to keep in mind when deciding whether or not to get a fuel drain:

  1. What amount of Diesel have you put into the Rover, considering that the fuel capacity of your Rover 45 is normally around 50 litres?
    1. A modest quantity of Diesel, less than 2.5 litres of Diesel in a Petrol 45 will quite often not necessarily be a big problem. Experience has taught us that anything under 2.5 litres (which is roughly 5% of the entire fuel tank capacity) is usually able to be adequately diluted by totally topping the remainder of the tank with the appropriate fuel.
It is highly uncommon to come across an automobile suffering from difficulties with lower than 5% wrong fuel contamination. Remember that it is infrequent - definitely not impossible to find. You will discover some automobiles that don't endure any quantity of contamination at all.
    2. Between 2.5 and 5 litres of Diesel in the Rover (5 to 10%) is more of a 50/50 scenario. Our experience has proven that as many motorists get away with this as all those who don't. Whenever you are deciding upon whether to chance it and just simply fill it up recognise that it is the same as betting everything on black - you've got a 50/50 chance of it working out.
    3. Anything more than 5 litres of Diesel in a Petrol 45 should really right away be removed as your likelihood of getting away with this level of contamination is more than likely lower than one in fifty - seriously long odds.
  2. Put some Diesel in a Petrol Rover and drove it: Have you detected any performance problems as a result of putting the wrong fuel in your 45? In that case, get it drained regardless of the amount of Diesel or even the contamination percentage. Still driving an automobile that is already beginning to suffer from the effects of fuel contamination will definitely bring about increasing amounts of harm affecting your fuel system.
  3. Would you like reassurance?
Then get it drained. No matter the contamination ratio, there is invariably some amount of danger connected with running a Petrol engine on Petrol contaminated with the incorrect fuel. Possible implications of driving a car on the wrong fuel include things like the motor not starting, running lumpy, loss in power, degradation of the high-pressure pump, worn out or bunged injectors, and so forth. These are some of the most typical Diesel in Petrol warning signs, and in the event that you observe any of them stop and have it drained as soon as possible.

Steer clear of getting any unqualified mechanic to attend your automobile. We are Rover specialists and hold the certification and knowledge necessary to ensure that you are back on the road with minimum hassle or worry.

Turn off the car as soon as possible and call us. Continuing to run a vehicle on the wrong fuel can potentially damage it. We will be able to give you advice and assistance based on your circumstances

Will driving a Petrol car on Diesel cause damage to it?

Answer

It can. However, if the problem is caught and remedied quickly the risks will be minimal. Of the 1,500 vehicles we attend every month, less than 0.5% have suffered and substantial damage requiring parts replacement.

Answer

Putting Super Unleaded, or Shell V-Power, BP Ultimate Unleaded, etc, will have the exact same effect as putting regular unleaded petrol in your diesel car and will need to be drained out and flushed.

Will getting you to do a fuel drain void my warranty?

Answer

No! The EU Block Exemption Regulations clearly state that "the work can be carried out by as long as that garage uses manufacturer approved parts and correctly follows the manufacturer's service schedule."

Can I top it up with Petrol and add some 2-stroke oil?

Answer

This might work on some vehicles in some cases, but in the majority on instances it won't and you risk damaging the Lambda sensors as well as fuel pump and injectors, just as a regular misfuel.
