Skoda Fuel Drain

ABOUT

Filling Diesel in a Petrol Skoda is a well-known problem. And exactly what you should do about it will depend on a number of things. If perhaps you would like to know what you must do to sort it out then continue reading.
Listed below are the main variables to keep in mind whenever figuring out whether to have a fuel drain:

  1. Exactly how much Diesel have you put into the Skoda, taking into account that the fuel capacity of the Skoda Roomster is probably about 55 litres?
    1. Hardly any Diesel, something like 2.75 litres of Diesel in a Petrol Roomster will typically not necessarily be a massive problem. Experience has demonstrated to us that anything less than 2.75 litres (which is 5% of the whole fuel tank) is sometimes able to be adequately diluted by means of totally filling the rest of the tank with Petrol.
It's relatively rare to encounter a motor vehicle experiencing problems because of lower than 5% incorrect fuel contamination. Remember that it's rare - certainly not impossible to encounter. There are a number of automobiles that will not endure any quantity of contamination at all.
    2. Between 2.75 and 5.5 litres of Diesel in the Skoda (from 5 to 10%) is more of a 50/50 situation. Our practical experience has confirmed that as many drivers get away with this as those people who break down. Any time you are deciding upon whether or not to risk it and just top it up recognise that it is the same thing as gambling everything on black - you have got a 50/50 chance of it being ok.
    3. Anything in excess of 5.5 litres of Diesel in your Petrol Roomster ought to promptly be drained seeing as your likelihood of getting away with that amount of contamination is in all likelihood lower than one in fifty - really long odds.
  2. Put Diesel in a Petrol Skoda and drove it: Have you seen any performance difficulties after putting the bad fuel in the Roomster? If that's the case, get it emptied no matter the quantity of Diesel or even the contamination ratio. Continually running a vehicle that is already starting to suffer the effects of wrong fuel contamination will just end up in even more damage being caused to the fuel system.
  3. Do you want assurance?
You should get it emptied. No matter the contamination ratio, there is invariably a certain level of danger resulting from running a Petrol motor on fuel contaminated with the incorrect fuel. Probable implications of driving on the incorrect fuel normally include the motor not starting, running unevenly, lack of power, degradation of the high-pressure pump, worn or clogged injectors, and so forth. These are several of the commonest Diesel in Petrol signs and symptoms, and in the event that you notice any of them then stop driving and have it drained right away.

Diesel in Petrol Questions

When someone has put Diesel in a Petrol car they have a few very common questions. So we have compiled a list of the most Frequently Asked Questions for you

I put Diesel in a Petrol car and drove it. What do I do?

Answer

Turn off the car as soon as possible and call us. Continuing to run a vehicle on the wrong fuel can potentially damage it. We will be able to give you advice and assistance based on your circumstances

Will driving a Petrol car on Diesel cause damage to it?

Answer

It can. However, if the problem is caught and remedied quickly the risks will be minimal. Of the 1,500 vehicles we attend every month, less than 0.5% have suffered and substantial damage requiring parts replacement.

How much Diesel can I get away with in a Petrol car?

Answer

The safe answer is none. However you might be able to get away with a very low contamination ratio. That being said, we always highly recommend draining anything over a 5% contamination ratio asap.

I know about petrol in diesel, but what about Super Unleaded?

Answer

Putting Super Unleaded, or Shell V-Power, BP Ultimate Unleaded, etc, will have the exact same effect as putting regular unleaded petrol in your diesel car and will need to be drained out and flushed.

Will getting you to do a fuel drain void my warranty?

Answer

No! The EU Block Exemption Regulations clearly state that "the work can be carried out by as long as that garage uses manufacturer approved parts and correctly follows the manufacturer's service schedule."

Can I top it up with Petrol and add some 2-stroke oil?

Answer

This might work on some vehicles in some cases, but in the majority on instances it won't and you risk damaging the Lambda sensors as well as fuel pump and injectors, just as a regular misfuel.
