Smart Fuel Drain

ABOUT

Filling up with Diesel in a Petrol Smart is a fairly typical mistake to make. And its remedy is determined by a variety of things. Assuming you want to find out what it is best to do to sort it out then keep reading.
Listed here the main variables to be aware of when deciding whether or not to have a fuel drain:

  1. What amount of Diesel did you put in to the Smart, taking into account that the fuel tank capacity of the Smart passion is usually roughly 22 litres?
    1. A modest amount of Diesel, something like 1.1 litres of Diesel in a Petrol passion will generally not really be a big problem. Experience has demonstrated to us that anything under 1.1 litres (which is almost 5% of the entire fuel tank capacity) is oftentimes capable of being adequately diluted through entirely filling the rest of the tank with Petrol.
It's pretty unusual to find a motor vehicle going through problems because of less than 5% incorrect fuel contamination. Keep in mind it's infrequently found - definitely not impossible to encounter. There are actually a few automobiles that won't stand any amount of fuel contamination at all.
    2. Between 1.1 and 2.2 litres of Diesel in the Smart (5 to 10%) is really a 50/50 scenario. Our working experience has proven that as many motorists get away with it as those who break down. When deciding on whether or not to chance it and simply fill it up bear in mind that it is very much like gambling your car on black - you've got a 50/50 chance of it being ok.
    3. Anything in excess of 2.2 litres of Diesel in your Petrol passion really should right away be drained out because your probability of driving with this level of contamination is almost certainly less than one in 50 - really long odds.
  2. Put Diesel in a Petrol Smart and drove it: Have you noted any performance difficulties ever since putting the wrong fuel in your passion? In that case, have it emptied no matter the volume of Diesel or the contamination percentage. Still driving an automobile that is already beginning to suffer the effect of fuel contamination will probably likely cause even more damage being caused to your fuel system parts.
  3. Are you looking for security?
Then simply just get it removed. Regardless of contamination ratio, there is inevitably some degree of threat connected to operating a Petrol engine on Petrol contaminated with the wrong fuel. Possible consequences of driving on the wrong fuel include things like the engine not starting, running unevenly, lack of power, wearing of the high-pressure pump, worn out or blocked injectors, and the like. These are several of the commonest Diesel in Petrol signs or symptoms, and should you recognise any of them stop and have it removed as soon as possible.

Turn off the car as soon as possible and call us. Continuing to run a vehicle on the wrong fuel can potentially damage it. We will be able to give you advice and assistance based on your circumstances

Will driving a Petrol car on Diesel cause damage to it?

Answer

It can. However, if the problem is caught and remedied quickly the risks will be minimal. Of the 1,500 vehicles we attend every month, less than 0.5% have suffered and substantial damage requiring parts replacement.

How much Diesel can I get away with in a Petrol car?

I know about petrol in diesel, but what about Super Unleaded?

Answer

Putting Super Unleaded, or Shell V-Power, BP Ultimate Unleaded, etc, will have the exact same effect as putting regular unleaded petrol in your diesel car and will need to be drained out and flushed.

Will getting you to do a fuel drain void my warranty?

Answer

No! The EU Block Exemption Regulations clearly state that "the work can be carried out by as long as that garage uses manufacturer approved parts and correctly follows the manufacturer's service schedule."

Can I top it up with Petrol and add some 2-stroke oil?

Answer

This might work on some vehicles in some cases, but in the majority on instances it won't and you risk damaging the Lambda sensors as well as fuel pump and injectors, just as a regular misfuel.
