SsangYong Fuel Drain

Filling Diesel in a Petrol SsangYong is a very common mistake to make. And its remedy varies according to a few factors. In case you would like to find out what it is advisable to do about it then please read on.
Here are the main variables to take into consideration whenever deciding whether to get a fuel drain:

  1. What amount of Diesel did you put into the SsangYong, keeping in mind that the fuel tank capacity of your SsangYong Actyon 230 is usually about 75 litres?
    1. Hardly any Diesel, as little as 3.75 litres of Diesel in a Petrol Actyon 230 will generally not really be a huge problem. Experience has demonstrated to us that quantities under 3.75 litres (which is almost 5% of the entire fuel tank volume) is frequently capable of being adequately diluted by totally topping the remainder of the tank with Petrol.
It's very uncommon to find a motor vehicle having problems because of less than 5% incorrect fuel contamination. Keep in mind that it is very uncommon - in no way impossible to find. There are a few vehicles that won't endure any amount of contamination whatsoever.
    2. Somewhere between 3.75 and 7.5 litres of Diesel in the SsangYong (5 to 10%) is really a 50/50 condition. Our experience has revealed that as many drivers get away with it as all those who don't. Any time you're trying to decide whether or not to risk it and just simply fill it up remember that it is very much like gambling everything on black - you've got a 50/50 possibility of it being ok.
    3. Anything more than 7.5 litres of Diesel in a Petrol Actyon 230 must immediately be removed as your likelihood of succeeding with this amount of contamination is undoubtedly below one in 50 - really huge odds.
  2. Put some Diesel in a Petrol SsangYong and drove it: Have you noticed any kind of performance difficulties as a result of putting the bad fuel in your Actyon 230? In that case, have it drained irrespective of the quantity of Diesel or even the contamination percentage. Proceeding to run running a motor vehicle that is beginning to suffer from the effects of wrong fuel contamination can typically lead to even more damage affecting the fuel system components.
  3. Would you like security?
Then simply just get it emptied. Regardless of the contamination ratio, there is inevitably some amount of threat linked with running a Petrol motor on fuel contaminated with the incorrect fuel. Likely outcomes of driving on the incorrect fuel include the engine not starting, running lumpy, lack of power, wearing of the high-pressure pump, damaged or blocked injectors, etc. These are several of the most frequently seen Diesel in Petrol signs or symptoms, and if you detect any of them then stop driving and have it removed right away.

Diesel in Petrol Questions

I put Diesel in a Petrol car and drove it. What do I do?

Turn off the car as soon as possible and call us. Continuing to run a vehicle on the wrong fuel can potentially damage it. We will be able to give you advice and assistance based on your circumstances

Will driving a Petrol car on Diesel cause damage to it?

It can. However, if the problem is caught and remedied quickly the risks will be minimal. Of the 1,500 vehicles we attend every month, less than 0.5% have suffered and substantial damage requiring parts replacement.

How much Diesel can I get away with in a Petrol car?

The safe answer is none. However you might be able to get away with a very low contamination ratio. That being said, we always highly recommend draining anything over a 5% contamination ratio asap.

I know about petrol in diesel, but what about Super Unleaded?

Putting Super Unleaded, or Shell V-Power, BP Ultimate Unleaded, etc, will have the exact same effect as putting regular unleaded petrol in your diesel car and will need to be drained out and flushed.

Will getting you to do a fuel drain void my warranty?

No! The EU Block Exemption Regulations clearly state that "the work can be carried out by as long as that garage uses manufacturer approved parts and correctly follows the manufacturer's service schedule."

Can I top it up with Petrol and add some 2-stroke oil?

This might work on some vehicles in some cases, but in the majority on instances it won't and you risk damaging the Lambda sensors as well as fuel pump and injectors, just as a regular misfuel.
