SsangYong Fuel Drain

ABOUT

Putting Diesel in a Petrol SsangYong is a regular problem. And its solution is dependent upon a number of factors. If you want to know what you need to do about this then keep on reading.
Here are the main factors to take into consideration whenever deciding on whether or not to have it drained:

  1. Exactly how much Diesel did you put in the SsangYong, bearing in mind that the fuel capacity of the SsangYong Korando E23 is probably around 70 litres?
    1. A modest quantity of Diesel, something like 3.5 litres of Diesel in a Petrol Korando E23 will in most situations not necessarily be a significant problem. Experience has taught us that an amount under 3.5 litres (which is 5% of the overall fuel tank volume) is frequently capable of being sufficiently diluted by wholly topping up the remainder of the tank with Petrol.
It is pretty unusual to come across a vehicle suffering from issues with lower than 5% incorrect fuel contamination. Be aware that it is very infrequent - in no way impossible to find. There are actually a few vehicles that will not stand any amount of contamination whatsoever.
    2. Anywhere between 3.5 and 7 litres of Diesel in the SsangYong (5 to 10%) is more of a 50/50 scenario. Our experience has confirmed that as many drivers get away with this as those people who break down. Whenever you are deciding on whether or not to chance it and just simply top it up recognise that it is exactly like gambling it all on black - you will have a 50/50 possibility of it working out.
    3. Anything in excess of 7 litres of Diesel in a Petrol Korando E23 really should as soon as possible be removed seeing as your probability of driving with that level of contamination is in all likelihood below one in 50 - seriously long odds.
  2. Put Diesel in a Petrol SsangYong and drove it: Have you observed any performance problems ever since putting the incorrect fuel in your Korando E23? In that case, have it drained irrespective of the quantity of Diesel or the contamination percentage. Continually running a car that is now beginning to suffer from the effects of fuel contamination will likely result in more harm affecting your fuel system components.
  3. Are you interested in peace of mind?
Then simply just get it removed. Whatever the contamination ratio, there is inevitably some degree of threat resulting from running a Petrol vehicle on fuel contaminated with the wrong fuel. Possible consequences of driving a car on the wrong fuel include the engine not starting, running lumpy, reduced power, wearing of the high-pressure pump, worn out or blocked injectors, and so on. These are a few of the commonest Diesel in Petrol symptoms, and in the event that you notice any of them stop driving and get it drained right now.

Diesel in Petrol Questions

When someone has put Diesel in a Petrol car they have a few very common questions. So we have compiled a list of the most Frequently Asked Questions for you

I put Diesel in a Petrol car and drove it. What do I do?

Answer

Turn off the car as soon as possible and call us. Continuing to run a vehicle on the wrong fuel can potentially damage it. We will be able to give you advice and assistance based on your circumstances

Will driving a Petrol car on Diesel cause damage to it?

Answer

It can. However, if the problem is caught and remedied quickly the risks will be minimal. Of the 1,500 vehicles we attend every month, less than 0.5% have suffered and substantial damage requiring parts replacement.

How much Diesel can I get away with in a Petrol car?

Answer

The safe answer is none. However you might be able to get away with a very low contamination ratio. That being said, we always highly recommend draining anything over a 5% contamination ratio asap.

I know about petrol in diesel, but what about Super Unleaded?

Answer

Putting Super Unleaded, or Shell V-Power, BP Ultimate Unleaded, etc, will have the exact same effect as putting regular unleaded petrol in your diesel car and will need to be drained out and flushed.

Will getting you to do a fuel drain void my warranty?

Answer

No! The EU Block Exemption Regulations clearly state that "the work can be carried out by as long as that garage uses manufacturer approved parts and correctly follows the manufacturer's service schedule."

Can I top it up with Petrol and add some 2-stroke oil?

Answer

This might work on some vehicles in some cases, but in the majority on instances it won't and you risk damaging the Lambda sensors as well as fuel pump and injectors, just as a regular misfuel.
