Toyota Fuel Drain

ABOUT

Filling up with Diesel in a Petrol Toyota is a regular error. And exactly what you have to do about it is based on a number of things. In case you would like to find out what you have to do to sort it out then please read on.
Here are the most important factors to take into account whenever determining whether to get the car drained:

  1. What amount of Diesel did you put into the Toyota, bearing in mind that the fuel capacity of your Toyota Corolla is most likely approximately 55 litres?
    1. A tiny amount of Diesel, as little as 2.75 litres of Diesel in a Petrol Corolla will quite often not necessarily be a huge problem. Experience has proven to us that an amount less than 2.75 litres (which is almost 5% of the fuel tank volume) is in many instances capable of being completely diluted simply by completely topping the remainder of the tank with Petrol.
It is rather unusual to find an automobile experiencing issues because of below 5% incorrect fuel contamination. Please remember it is rare - not impossible to find. There are actually a few vehicles that won't stand any degree of fuel contamination whatsoever.
    2. Between 2.75 and 5.5 litres of Diesel in the Toyota (from 5 to 10%) is really a 50/50 scenario. Our practical experience has demonstrated that as many people get away with it as all those who don't. Whenever you are deciding whether or not to risk it and just top it up consider that it is much like betting it all on black - you have got a 50/50 chance of it working.
    3. Anything in excess of 5.5 litres of Diesel in a Petrol Corolla must straightaway be drained because your probability of driving with that level of contamination is more than likely below one in 50 - extremely long odds.
  2. Put some Diesel in a Petrol Toyota and drove it: Have you seen any performance difficulties after putting the incorrect fuel in your Corolla? In that case, have it removed no matter the amount of Diesel or the contamination ratio. Continually driving a car that is starting to suffer from the effect of fuel contamination can likely cause more and more damage being caused to your fuel system components.
  3. Do you want peace of mind?
Then get it removed. Whatever the contamination percentage, there is inevitably a certain level of risk resulting from running a Petrol vehicle on Petrol contaminated with the wrong fuel. Likely results of driving on the incorrect fuel normally include the motor refusing to start, running unevenly, lack of power, degradation of the high-pressure pump, worn out or clogged injectors, and so forth. These are some of the most frequently seen Diesel in Petrol warning signs, and in the event that you recognise any of them then stop and get it removed immediately.

Steer clear of having any jack-of-all-trades to try to repair your vehicle. We are Toyota specialists and have the credentials and practical experience necessary to ensure you are back on the road with minimal hassle or worry.

I put Diesel in a Petrol car and drove it. What do I do?

Answer

Turn off the car as soon as possible and call us. Continuing to run a vehicle on the wrong fuel can potentially damage it. We will be able to give you advice and assistance based on your circumstances

Will driving a Petrol car on Diesel cause damage to it?

Answer

It can. However, if the problem is caught and remedied quickly the risks will be minimal. Of the 1,500 vehicles we attend every month, less than 0.5% have suffered and substantial damage requiring parts replacement.

How much Diesel can I get away with in a Petrol car?

The safe answer is none. However you might be able to get away with a very low contamination ratio. That being said, we always highly recommend draining anything over a 5% contamination ratio asap.

I know about petrol in diesel, but what about Super Unleaded?

Answer

Putting Super Unleaded, or Shell V-Power, BP Ultimate Unleaded, etc, will have the exact same effect as putting regular unleaded petrol in your diesel car and will need to be drained out and flushed.

Will getting you to do a fuel drain void my warranty?

Answer

No! The EU Block Exemption Regulations clearly state that "the work can be carried out by as long as that garage uses manufacturer approved parts and correctly follows the manufacturer's service schedule."

Can I top it up with Petrol and add some 2-stroke oil?

Answer

This might work on some vehicles in some cases, but in the majority on instances it won't and you risk damaging the Lambda sensors as well as fuel pump and injectors, just as a regular misfuel.
