Vauxhall Fuel Drain

ABOUT

Filling up with Diesel in a Petrol Vauxhall is a fairly typical mistake to make. And exactly what you want to do about it varies according to several different things. If you would like to know what it is best to do to fix it then keep reading.
These are the main variables to take into consideration when figuring out whether or not to have it drained:

  1. What level of Diesel did you put in to the Vauxhall, considering that the fuel capacity of your Vauxhall Adam is normally approximately 38 litres?
    1. A modest amount of Diesel, less than 1.9 litres of Diesel in a Petrol Adam will more often than not not necessarily be a major problem. Experience has proven to us that anything under 1.9 litres (close to 5% of the entire fuel tank) is often able to be sufficiently diluted through entirely filling up the tank with the appropriate fuel.
It is quite unusual to encounter a vehicle having difficulties due to below 5% wrong fuel contamination. Be aware that it is very uncommon - definitely not impossible to find. You can get some cars that won't endure any level of fuel contamination at all.
    2. Anywhere between 1.9 and 3.8 litres of Diesel in the Vauxhall (5 to 10%) is more of a 50/50 condition. Our experience demonstrates that as many motorists get away with it as those who don't. Whenever you are deciding on whether to risk it and basically top it up consider that it is the same thing as betting it all on black - you have got a 50/50 possibility of it working out.
    3. Anything above 3.8 litres of Diesel in a Petrol Adam really should immediately be drained out because your likelihood of driving with that amount of contamination is undoubtedly below one in fifty - really huge odds.
  2. Put some Diesel in a Petrol Vauxhall and drove it: Have you noted any kind of performance concerns ever since putting the wrong fuel in the Adam? If that's the case, have it drained no matter the volume of Diesel or the contamination ratio. Still driving a motor vehicle that is starting to suffer from the effect of fuel contamination will definitely be responsible for more harm being done to the fuel system.
  3. Do you want assurance?
Then simply just get it removed. Regardless of contamination ratio, there is always some extent of danger resulting from driving a Petrol engine on fuel contaminated with the incorrect fuel. Possible results of driving a vehicle on the incorrect fuel can include the motor refusing to start, running lumpy, losing power, wearing of the high-pressure pump, worn or clogged injectors, and the like. These are some of the most common Diesel in Petrol signs and symptoms, and if you detect any of them stop driving and have it drained asap.

Do not simply have any jack-of-all-trades to try to fix your vehicle. We are Vauxhall specialists and hold the accreditation and experience needed to make sure that you get back on the road with little hassle or trouble.

Turn off the car as soon as possible and call us. Continuing to run a vehicle on the wrong fuel can potentially damage it. We will be able to give you advice and assistance based on your circumstances

Will driving a Petrol car on Diesel cause damage to it?

Answer

It can. However, if the problem is caught and remedied quickly the risks will be minimal. Of the 1,500 vehicles we attend every month, less than 0.5% have suffered and substantial damage requiring parts replacement.

How much Diesel can I get away with in a Petrol car?

The safe answer is none. However you might be able to get away with a very low contamination ratio. That being said, we always highly recommend draining anything over a 5% contamination ratio asap.

I know about petrol in diesel, but what about Super Unleaded?

Answer

Putting Super Unleaded, or Shell V-Power, BP Ultimate Unleaded, etc, will have the exact same effect as putting regular unleaded petrol in your diesel car and will need to be drained out and flushed.

Will getting you to do a fuel drain void my warranty?

Answer

No! The EU Block Exemption Regulations clearly state that "the work can be carried out by as long as that garage uses manufacturer approved parts and correctly follows the manufacturer's service schedule."

Can I top it up with Petrol and add some 2-stroke oil?

Answer

This might work on some vehicles in some cases, but in the majority on instances it won't and you risk damaging the Lambda sensors as well as fuel pump and injectors, just as a regular misfuel.
