Vauxhall Fuel Drain

ABOUT

Filling Diesel in a Petrol Vauxhall is a well-known mistake. And what you need to do about it is based on several things. If you want to find out what you have to do about it then read on.
Listed here the key factors to keep in mind whenever making a decision whether or not to have a fuel drain:

  1. How much Diesel did you put in the Vauxhall, taking into account that the fuel capacity of the Vauxhall Astra is most likely around 52 litres?
    1. A tiny quantity of Diesel, something like 2.6 litres of Diesel in a Petrol Astra will quite often not really be a significant problem. Experience has shown us that an amount less than 2.6 litres (which is close to 5% of the whole fuel tank volume) is in many instances able to be adequately diluted simply by completely topping the tank with Petrol.
It is rather uncommon to encounter a car going through problems with under 5% wrong fuel contamination. Remember that it is infrequent - definitely not impossible to find. There are a few cars that don't stand any quantity of contamination at all.
    2. In between 2.6 and 5.2 litres of Diesel in the Vauxhall (5 to 10%) is more of a 50/50 condition. Our experience demonstrates that as many drivers get away with this as those people who don't. When you are figuring out whether or not to chance it and simply top it up remember that it is the same as wagering all of it on black - you will have a 50/50 chance of it working.
    3. Anything over 5.2 litres of Diesel in a Petrol Astra must straightaway be removed as your likelihood of getting away with this quantity of contamination is very likely lower than one in fifty - definitely big odds.
  2. Put Diesel in a Petrol Vauxhall and drove it: Have you seen any kind of performance issues after putting the bad fuel in your Astra? If you have, get it removed no matter the amount of Diesel or even the contamination percentage. Proceeding to drive driving a motor vehicle that is beginning to suffer from the effects of wrong fuel contamination will just be responsible for more and more harm being done to the fuel system parts.
  3. Are you looking for reassurance?
You should get it drained. No matter the contamination percentage, there is always some degree of danger caused by running a Petrol engine on fuel contaminated with the wrong fuel. Probable implications of driving on the incorrect fuel include the motor refusing to start, running lumpy, decrease in power, degradation of the high-pressure pump, worn or clogged injectors, etc. These are a few of the most common Diesel in Petrol symptoms, and in the event that you observe any of them cease driving and get it drained right away.

I put Diesel in a Petrol car and drove it. What do I do?

Answer

Turn off the car as soon as possible and call us. Continuing to run a vehicle on the wrong fuel can potentially damage it. We will be able to give you advice and assistance based on your circumstances

Will driving a Petrol car on Diesel cause damage to it?

Answer

It can. However, if the problem is caught and remedied quickly the risks will be minimal. Of the 1,500 vehicles we attend every month, less than 0.5% have suffered and substantial damage requiring parts replacement.

How much Diesel can I get away with in a Petrol car?

The safe answer is none. However you might be able to get away with a very low contamination ratio. That being said, we always highly recommend draining anything over a 5% contamination ratio asap.

I know about petrol in diesel, but what about Super Unleaded?

Answer

Putting Super Unleaded, or Shell V-Power, BP Ultimate Unleaded, etc, will have the exact same effect as putting regular unleaded petrol in your diesel car and will need to be drained out and flushed.

Will getting you to do a fuel drain void my warranty?

Answer

No! The EU Block Exemption Regulations clearly state that "the work can be carried out by as long as that garage uses manufacturer approved parts and correctly follows the manufacturer's service schedule."

Can I top it up with Petrol and add some 2-stroke oil?

Answer

This might work on some vehicles in some cases, but in the majority on instances it won't and you risk damaging the Lambda sensors as well as fuel pump and injectors, just as a regular misfuel.
