Vauxhall Fuel Drain

ABOUT

Filling up with Diesel in a Petrol Vauxhall is a regularly occurring mistake. And what you need to do about it depends upon several factors. If you want to find out what it is advisable to do to sort it out then stay with me.
These are the main factors to take into account whenever making a decision whether or not to have a fuel drain:

  1. Exactly how much Diesel have you put into the Vauxhall, taking into account that the fuel tank capacity of your Vauxhall Sintra is normally about 70 litres?
    1. A modest quantity of Diesel, as little as 3.5 litres of Diesel in a Petrol Sintra will in most cases not necessarily be a big problem. Experience has taught us that anything less than 3.5 litres (which is about 5% of the whole fuel tank volume) is sometimes able to be completely diluted simply by wholly filling the tank with the appropriate fuel.
It is extremely rare to encounter a car or truck suffering from difficulties with under 5% incorrect fuel contamination. Bear in mind that it is unusual - certainly not impossible to find. You will discover some vehicles that don't endure any amount of fuel contamination at all.
    2. Somewhere between 3.5 and 7 litres of Diesel in the Vauxhall (from 5 to 10%) is a 50/50 situation. Our practical experience has revealed that as many motorists get away with it as those who don't. When you are figuring out whether to risk it and just top it up consider that it is much like betting it all on black - you will have a 50/50 possibility of it working.
    3. Anything more than 7 litres of Diesel in a Petrol Sintra must promptly be drained out because your probability of driving with that amount of contamination is very likely lower than one in 50 - definitely huge odds.
  2. Put Diesel in a Petrol Vauxhall and drove it: Have you seen any kind of performance issues ever since putting the incorrect fuel in the Sintra? If so, get it emptied irrespective of the amount of Diesel or even the contamination ratio. Proceeding to run driving a vehicle that is already starting to suffer from the effects of fuel contamination will typically cause more harm being caused to the fuel system parts.
  3. Would you like reassurance?
Then simply just get it drained. Regardless of the contamination percentage, there is always some amount of danger associated with running a Petrol motor on Petrol contaminated with Diesel. Likely consequences of driving a vehicle on the wrong fuel include the motor not starting, running lumpy, lack of power, wearing of the high-pressure pump, worn or clogged injectors, etc. These are some of the most typical Diesel in Petrol warning signs, and in the event that you detect any of them stop and get it drained right now.

Turn off the car as soon as possible and call us. Continuing to run a vehicle on the wrong fuel can potentially damage it. We will be able to give you advice and assistance based on your circumstances

Will driving a Petrol car on Diesel cause damage to it?

Answer

It can. However, if the problem is caught and remedied quickly the risks will be minimal. Of the 1,500 vehicles we attend every month, less than 0.5% have suffered and substantial damage requiring parts replacement.

Answer

Putting Super Unleaded, or Shell V-Power, BP Ultimate Unleaded, etc, will have the exact same effect as putting regular unleaded petrol in your diesel car and will need to be drained out and flushed.

Will getting you to do a fuel drain void my warranty?

Answer

No! The EU Block Exemption Regulations clearly state that "the work can be carried out by as long as that garage uses manufacturer approved parts and correctly follows the manufacturer's service schedule."

Can I top it up with Petrol and add some 2-stroke oil?

Answer

This might work on some vehicles in some cases, but in the majority on instances it won't and you risk damaging the Lambda sensors as well as fuel pump and injectors, just as a regular misfuel.
