Volkswagen Fuel Drain

ABOUT

Filling Diesel in a Petrol Volkswagen is a common problem. And exactly what you have to do about it depends upon a few things. If perhaps you would like to find out what it is advisable to do about it then keep on reading.
Listed below are the most important variables to be aware of whenever choosing whether to have it drained:

  1. Exactly how much Diesel have you put into the Volkswagen, taking into account that the fuel tank capacity of the Volkswagen Passat CC TSI is in most cases around 70 litres?
    1. A small amount of Diesel, as little as 3.5 litres of Diesel in a Petrol Passat CC TSI will normally not necessarily be a massive problem. Experience has shown us that anything under 3.5 litres (close to 5% of the whole fuel tank capacity) is oftentimes capable of being adequately diluted by wholly filling the remainder of the tank with the appropriate fuel.
It is very rare to come across a vehicle experiencing difficulties with below 5% incorrect fuel contamination. Bear in mind that it is uncommon - in no way impossible to find. You can get some vehicles that don't stand any level of contamination whatsoever.
    2. Between 3.5 and 7 litres of Diesel in the Volkswagen (from 5 to 10%) is really a 50/50 scenario. Our practical experience has revealed that as many people get away with it as those who break down. When you are figuring out whether or not to chance it and basically fill it up remember that it is very much like gambling your car on black - you have got a 50/50 chance of it working.
    3. Anything in excess of 7 litres of Diesel in a Petrol Passat CC TSI should really straight away be removed seeing that your probability of getting away with that amount of contamination is certainly below one in fifty - truly huge odds.
  2. Put some Diesel in a Petrol Volkswagen and drove it: Have you noted any kind of performance issues since putting the incorrect fuel in the Passat CC TSI? If you have, have it drained no matter the quantity of Diesel or even the contamination ratio. Still running a vehicle that is currently beginning to suffer from the effects of wrong fuel contamination can typically end up in even more harm affecting the fuel system.
  3. Are you looking for security?
You should get it removed. Whatever the contamination ratio, there is inevitably some degree of risk associated with running a Petrol engine on Petrol contaminated with the wrong fuel. Possible outcomes of driving a vehicle on the incorrect fuel include the motor refusing to start, running lumpy, decrease in power, degradation of the high-pressure pump, worn or blocked injectors, and so on. These are some of the commonest Diesel in Petrol warning signs, and in the event that you recognise any of them then stop and get it drained right away.

No! The EU Block Exemption Regulations clearly state that "the work can be carried out by as long as that garage uses manufacturer approved parts and correctly follows the manufacturer's service schedule."

Can I top it up with Petrol and add some 2-stroke oil?

Answer

This might work on some vehicles in some cases, but in the majority on instances it won't and you risk damaging the Lambda sensors as well as fuel pump and injectors, just as a regular misfuel.
