Volkswagen Fuel Drain

ABOUT

Putting Diesel in a Petrol Volkswagen is a regularly occurring problem. And what you need to do about it is based on a few factors. If you would like to know what you have to do about it then continue reading.
These are the most important factors to consider whenever deciding on whether to get a fuel drain:

  1. How much Diesel have you put in the Volkswagen, taking into account that the fuel capacity of the Volkswagen Passat TSI is normally approximately 70 litres?
    1. Hardly any Diesel, as little as 3.5 litres of Diesel in a Petrol Passat TSI will normally not really be a big problem. Experience has shown us that quantities less than 3.5 litres (which is 5% of the overall fuel tank) is quite often able to be completely diluted simply by completely topping the remainder of the tank with Petrol.
It's very uncommon to find a motor vehicle suffering from issues due to less than 5% wrong fuel contamination. Bear in mind that it is very unusual - not impossible to find. There are actually a number of cars that will not endure any degree of contamination at all.
    2. Anywhere between 3.5 and 7 litres of Diesel in the Volkswagen (from 5 to 10%) is more of a 50/50 scenario. Our experience has revealed that as many drivers get away with this as those people who break down. Any time you're deciding upon whether to risk it and simply top it up recognise that it is much like betting everything on black - you have got a 50/50 possibility of it being ok.
    3. Anything more than 7 litres of Diesel in your Petrol Passat TSI should promptly be drained because your probability of getting away with that amount of contamination is more than likely lower than one in 50 - truly long odds.
  2. Put Diesel in a Petrol Volkswagen and drove it: Have you seen any kind of performance concerns since putting the wrong fuel in your Passat TSI? If you have, have it removed no matter the quantity of Diesel or the contamination percentage. Proceeding to drive running a vehicle that is currently starting to suffer from the effect of fuel contamination can typically result in more and more damage being done to the fuel system parts.
  3. Are you looking for security?
Then get it drained. Regardless of contamination percentage, there is inevitably some amount of risk connected to driving a Petrol vehicle on fuel contaminated with the wrong fuel. Likely final outcomes of driving on the wrong fuel normally include the motor refusing to start, running unevenly, loss of power, degradation of the high-pressure pump, damaged or blocked injectors, and so forth. These are some of the most common Diesel in Petrol symptoms, and should you notice any of them then stop driving and get it removed right now.

No! The EU Block Exemption Regulations clearly state that "the work can be carried out by as long as that garage uses manufacturer approved parts and correctly follows the manufacturer's service schedule."

Can I top it up with Petrol and add some 2-stroke oil?

Answer

This might work on some vehicles in some cases, but in the majority on instances it won't and you risk damaging the Lambda sensors as well as fuel pump and injectors, just as a regular misfuel.
