Alfa Romeo Fuel Drain

ABOUT

Filling Petrol in a Diesel Alfa Romeo is a fairly typical mistake. And what you should do about it is determined by a few factors. In case you want to find out what you must do to fix it then keep on reading.
Let us discuss the key variables to take into account whenever deciding on whether to get it drained:

  1. What amount of Petrol have you put in the Alfa Romeo, keeping in mind that the fuel tank capacity of the Alfa Romeo 159 JTDM is usually roughly 70 litres?
    1. Hardly any Petrol, something like 3.5 litres of Petrol in a Diesel 159 JTDM will in most situations not necessarily be a big problem. Experience has shown us that anything under 3.5 litres (which is close to 5% of the fuel tank capacity) is in many instances able to be sufficiently diluted simply by wholly filling up the remainder of the tank with Diesel.
It is quite uncommon to come across a motor vehicle going through difficulties with less than 5% wrong fuel contamination. Bear in mind that it's unusual - in no way impossible to encounter. There are some motor vehicles that will not endure any level of fuel contamination in the slightest.
    2. In between 3.5 and 7 litres of Petrol in the Alfa Romeo (from 5 to 10%) is more of a 50/50 scenario. Our working experience demonstrates that as many motorists get away with this as all those who don't. Whenever trying to decide whether to risk it and basically fill it up remember that it is exactly like gambling all of it on black - you will have a 50/50 possibility of it working.
    3. Anything above 7 litres of Petrol in a Diesel 159 JTDM must promptly be drained because your likelihood of succeeding with that level of contamination is almost certainly lower than one in fifty - genuinely long odds.
  2. Put Petrol in a Diesel Alfa Romeo and drove it: Have you detected any performance concerns after putting the wrong fuel in your 159 JTDM? In that case, have it emptied no matter the volume of Petrol or even the contamination ratio. Continually driving a vehicle that is starting to suffer from the effects of wrong fuel contamination can typically cause more and more damage being caused to the fuel system parts.
  3. Are you looking for assurance?
Then get it removed. No matter the contamination percentage, there is always some amount of danger caused by operating a Diesel engine on Diesel contaminated with Petrol. Likely implications of driving on the incorrect fuel normally include the motor not starting, running unevenly, loss in power, degradation of the high-pressure pump, worn or clogged injectors, and so on. These are a few of the most frequently seen Petrol in Diesel symptoms, and if you detect any of them cease driving and have it drained as soon as possible.

Turn off the car as soon as possible and call us. Continuing to run a vehicle on the wrong fuel can potentially damage it. We will be able to give you advice and assistance based on your circumstances

Will driving a Diesel car on Petrol cause damage to it?

Answer

It can. However, if the problem is caught and remedied quickly the risks will be minimal. Of the 1,500 vehicles we attend every month, less than 0.5% have suffered and substantial damage requiring parts replacement.

I know about petrol in diesel, but what about Super Unleaded?

Answer

Putting Super Unleaded, or Shell V-Power, BP Ultimate Unleaded, etc, will have the exact same effect as putting regular unleaded petrol in your diesel car and will need to be drained out and flushed.

Will getting you to do a fuel drain void my warranty?

Answer

No! The EU Block Exemption Regulations clearly state that "the work can be carried out by as long as that garage uses manufacturer approved parts and correctly follows the manufacturer's service schedule."

Can I top it up with Diesel and add some 2-stroke oil?

Answer

This might work on some vehicles in some cases, but in the majority on instances it won't and you risk damaging the Lambda sensors as well as fuel pump and injectors, just as a regular misfuel.
