BMW Fuel Drain

ABOUT

Filling Petrol in a Diesel BMW is a well-known error. And its remedy depends on a variety of factors. Assuming you want to know what you have to do to sort it out then read on.
Right here are the key factors to think about whenever deciding whether or not to get your car drained:

  1. What level of Petrol did you put in the BMW, keeping in mind that the fuel capacity of your BMW 120d is in most cases roughly 50 litres?
    1. A modest quantity of Petrol, something like 2.5 litres of Petrol in a Diesel 120d will in most situations not necessarily be a big problem. Experience has taught us that anything less than 2.5 litres (which is approximately 5% of the entire fuel tank capacity) is quite often able to be adequately diluted through thoroughly filling the tank with Diesel.
It's quite uncommon to encounter an automobile experiencing problems with below 5% incorrect fuel contamination. Be aware that it is very unusual - not impossible to find. There are actually some automobiles that don't endure any amount of contamination at all.
    2. Anywhere between 2.5 and 5 litres of Petrol in the BMW (from 5 to 10%) is more of a 50/50 scenario. Our practical experience demonstrates that as many people get away with it as those people who break down. When you are deciding upon whether to chance it and just simply top it up consider that it is the same thing as gambling everything on black - you have a 50/50 possibility of it being ok.
    3. Anything above 5 litres of Petrol in a Diesel 120d should really as soon as possible be drained seeing as your likelihood of succeeding with this quantity of contamination is almost certainly less than one in fifty - definitely huge odds.
  2. Put some Petrol in a Diesel BMW and drove it: Have you observed any performance difficulties since putting the incorrect fuel in your 120d? In that case, have it emptied no matter the volume of Petrol or the contamination ratio. Proceeding to drive running an automobile that is now beginning to suffer from the consequences of wrong fuel contamination can likely result in more damage being done to the fuel system components.
  3. Would you like security?
Then get it drained. Whatever the contamination ratio, there is inevitably some extent of risk affiliated with operating a Diesel motor on Diesel contaminated with the incorrect fuel. Likely results of driving on the wrong fuel normally include the motor not starting, running lumpy, reduced power, degradation of the high-pressure pump, worn out or clogged injectors, and the like. These are several of the most frequently seen Petrol in Diesel signs or symptoms, and if you notice any of them then stop and get it removed right away.

Will driving a Diesel car on Petrol cause damage to it?

It can. However, if the problem is caught and remedied quickly the risks will be minimal. Of the 1,500 vehicles we attend every month, less than 0.5% have suffered and substantial damage requiring parts replacement.

Putting Super Unleaded, or Shell V-Power, BP Ultimate Unleaded, etc, will have the exact same effect as putting regular unleaded petrol in your diesel car and will need to be drained out and flushed.

Will getting you to do a fuel drain void my warranty?

Answer

No! The EU Block Exemption Regulations clearly state that "the work can be carried out by as long as that garage uses manufacturer approved parts and correctly follows the manufacturer's service schedule."

Can I top it up with Diesel and add some 2-stroke oil?

Answer

This might work on some vehicles in some cases, but in the majority on instances it won't and you risk damaging the Lambda sensors as well as fuel pump and injectors, just as a regular misfuel.
