BMW Fuel Drain

ABOUT

Putting Petrol in a Diesel BMW is a regularly occurring error. And its remedy hinges on several things. Assuming you want to find out what you should do about it then continue reading.
Listed below are the key factors to think about when making a decision whether or not to get the car drained:

  1. What level of Petrol did you put in the BMW, taking into account that the fuel tank capacity of your BMW 525xd is probably roughly 70 litres?
    1. A modest quantity of Petrol, as little as 3.5 litres of Petrol in a Diesel 525xd will generally not be a major problem. Experience has proven to us that an amount less than 3.5 litres (which is approximately 5% of the overall fuel tank capacity) is often able to be adequately diluted simply by wholly filling up the tank with Diesel.
It is extremely uncommon to find a car or truck going through problems because of less than 5% incorrect fuel contamination. Keep in mind it is rare - certainly not impossible to encounter. You will discover a few motor vehicles that don't stand any degree of fuel contamination whatsoever.
    2. In between 3.5 and 7 litres of Petrol in the BMW (5 to 10%) is more of a 50/50 situation. Our experience has shown us that as many people get away with this as those who don't. Any time you are figuring out whether to chance it and simply fill it up remember that it is just like betting all of it on black - you have got a 50/50 chance of it working out.
    3. Anything above 7 litres of Petrol in a Diesel 525xd ought to promptly be removed since your likelihood of succeeding with this amount of contamination is certainly lower than one in 50 - genuinely huge odds.
  2. Put some Petrol in a Diesel BMW and drove it: Have you seen any performance difficulties after putting the incorrect fuel in your 525xd? If so, have it emptied no matter the amount of Petrol or the contamination ratio. Proceeding to run driving an automobile that is currently starting to suffer from the effects of fuel contamination can typically bring about more and more harm being done to your fuel system parts.
  3. Do you need assurance?
Then simply just get it drained. No matter the contamination ratio, there is always some amount of threat linked with operating a Diesel engine on fuel contaminated with Petrol. Probable consequences of driving a car on the incorrect fuel normally include the motor refusing to start, running lumpy, loss of power, degradation of the high-pressure pump, worn out or bunged injectors, and so forth. These are a few of the most common Petrol in Diesel signs and symptoms, and should you recognise any of them then stop driving and have it removed right away.

No! The EU Block Exemption Regulations clearly state that "the work can be carried out by as long as that garage uses manufacturer approved parts and correctly follows the manufacturer's service schedule."

Can I top it up with Diesel and add some 2-stroke oil?

This might work on some vehicles in some cases, but in the majority on instances it won't and you risk damaging the Lambda sensors as well as fuel pump and injectors, just as a regular misfuel.
