BMW Fuel Drain

ABOUT

Filling up with Petrol in a Diesel BMW is a common mistake. And exactly what you want to do about it hinges on a few factors. Assuming you would like to know what it is advisable to do about it then stay with me.
Let us discuss the main factors to be aware of when deciding whether to have your car drained:

  1. Exactly how much Petrol did you put into the BMW, taking into consideration that the fuel capacity of the BMW 750d xDrive is normally about 80 litres?
    1. A modest amount of Petrol, something like 4 litres of Petrol in a Diesel 750d xDrive will normally not necessarily be a huge problem. Experience has shown us that an amount less than 4 litres (5% of the fuel tank volume) is usually capable of being adequately diluted through entirely topping the tank with Diesel.
It's extremely unusual to encounter an automobile suffering from issues because of below 5% incorrect fuel contamination. Bear in mind that it is very rare - definitely not impossible to encounter. There are some vehicles that won't endure any degree of contamination at all.
    2. In between 4 and 8 litres of Petrol in the BMW (5 to 10%) is more of a 50/50 condition. Our working experience has demonstrated that as many drivers get away with this as all those who break down. When you are deciding whether to risk it and just simply top it up consider that it is just like gambling everything on black - you've got a 50/50 chance of it working.
    3. Anything over 8 litres of Petrol in a Diesel 750d xDrive should right away be removed because your probability of succeeding with this amount of contamination is in all likelihood below one in 50 - truly big odds.
  2. Put some Petrol in a Diesel BMW and drove it: Have you detected any kind of performance troubles since putting the bad fuel in the 750d xDrive? If you have, have it removed regardless of the amount of Petrol or even the contamination ratio. Proceeding to run running a motor vehicle that is beginning to suffer from the effects of fuel contamination will probably only be responsible for increasing amounts of harm affecting your fuel system.
  3. Do you need security?
Then simply just get it drained. Regardless of the contamination percentage, there is inevitably some extent of danger caused by driving a Diesel vehicle on fuel contaminated with Petrol. Probable consequences of driving on the wrong fuel include things like the engine refusing to start, running lumpy, loss of power, wearing of the high-pressure pump, damaged or bunged injectors, and so on. These are a few of the most common Petrol in Diesel warning signs, and if you observe any of them stop driving and have it drained right now.

Will driving a Diesel car on Petrol cause damage to it?

It can. However, if the problem is caught and remedied quickly the risks will be minimal. Of the 1,500 vehicles we attend every month, less than 0.5% have suffered and substantial damage requiring parts replacement.

Answer

Putting Super Unleaded, or Shell V-Power, BP Ultimate Unleaded, etc, will have the exact same effect as putting regular unleaded petrol in your diesel car and will need to be drained out and flushed.

Will getting you to do a fuel drain void my warranty?

Answer

No! The EU Block Exemption Regulations clearly state that "the work can be carried out by as long as that garage uses manufacturer approved parts and correctly follows the manufacturer's service schedule."

Can I top it up with Diesel and add some 2-stroke oil?

Answer

This might work on some vehicles in some cases, but in the majority on instances it won't and you risk damaging the Lambda sensors as well as fuel pump and injectors, just as a regular misfuel.
