Chevrolet Fuel Drain

Putting Petrol in a Diesel Chevrolet is a regularly occurring error. And its solution hinges on several factors. Assuming you want to know what it is best to do about this then read on.
These are the main variables to keep in mind whenever making a decision whether or not to get a fuel drain:

  1. Exactly how much Petrol did you put into the Chevrolet, taking into account that the fuel tank capacity of the Chevrolet Malibu D is most likely roughly 73 litres?
    1. A tiny amount of Petrol, less than 3.65 litres of Petrol in a Diesel Malibu D will in most situations not really be a huge problem. Experience has proven to us that an amount under 3.65 litres (about 5% of the entire fuel tank capacity) is often able to be completely diluted by means of entirely topping up the remainder of the tank with Diesel.
It's highly uncommon to come across a motor vehicle suffering from issues because of less than 5% incorrect fuel contamination. Be aware that it is very infrequent - in no way impossible to find. There are actually some automobiles that don't endure any amount of fuel contamination at all.
    2. In between 3.65 and 7.3 litres of Petrol in the Chevrolet (5 to 10%) is a 50/50 situation. Our practical experience has demonstrated that as many people get away with this as those who break down. Any time you are figuring out whether or not to chance it and just simply top it up remember that it is much like wagering it all on black - you've got a 50/50 possibility of it being ok.
    3. Anything in excess of 7.3 litres of Petrol in your Diesel Malibu D should really immediately be drained since your probability of getting away with that amount of contamination is certainly lower than one in fifty - definitely long odds.
  2. Put some Petrol in a Diesel Chevrolet and drove it: Have you noted any performance difficulties ever since putting the incorrect fuel in the Malibu D? If so, have it emptied regardless of the volume of Petrol or even the contamination ratio. Proceeding to drive running a motor vehicle that is currently beginning to suffer the effect of wrong fuel contamination will likely bring about more harm affecting your fuel system.
  3. Are you interested in assurance?
Simply get it emptied. Whatever the contamination percentage, there is inevitably some extent of risk connected to running a Diesel engine on fuel contaminated with the wrong fuel. Possible implications of driving a car on the incorrect fuel can include the motor not starting, running lumpy, lack of power, wearing of the high-pressure pump, worn out or bunged injectors, and so forth. These are some of the commonest Petrol in Diesel signs and symptoms, and in the event that you recognise any of them then stop and have it removed as soon as possible.

Petrol in Diesel FAQs

When someone has put Petrol in a Diesel car they have a few very common questions. So we have compiled a list of the most Frequently Asked Questions for you

I put Petrol in a Diesel car and drove it. What do I do?

Turn off the car as soon as possible and call us. Continuing to run a vehicle on the wrong fuel can potentially damage it. We will be able to give you advice and assistance based on your circumstances

Will driving a Diesel car on Petrol cause damage to it?

It can. However, if the problem is caught and remedied quickly the risks will be minimal. Of the 1,500 vehicles we attend every month, less than 0.5% have suffered and substantial damage requiring parts replacement.

How much Petrol can I get away with in a Diesel car?

The safe answer is none. However you might be able to get away with a very low contamination ratio. That being said, we always highly recommend draining anything over a 5% contamination ratio asap.

I know about petrol in diesel, but what about Super Unleaded?

Putting Super Unleaded, or Shell V-Power, BP Ultimate Unleaded, etc, will have the exact same effect as putting regular unleaded petrol in your diesel car and will need to be drained out and flushed.

Will getting you to do a fuel drain void my warranty?

No! The EU Block Exemption Regulations clearly state that "the work can be carried out by as long as that garage uses manufacturer approved parts and correctly follows the manufacturer's service schedule."

Can I top it up with Diesel and add some 2-stroke oil?

This might work on some vehicles in some cases, but in the majority on instances it won't and you risk damaging the Lambda sensors as well as fuel pump and injectors, just as a regular misfuel.
