Citroen Fuel Drain

ABOUT

Filling Petrol in a Diesel Citroen is a very common error. And its solution is based on several factors. If you want to find out what you need to do to sort it out then keep reading.
Here are the most crucial factors to to consider when deciding whether or not to have it drained:

  1. How much Petrol have you put in the Citroen, considering that the fuel capacity of your Citroen Saxo D is usually approximately 45 litres?
    1. A small quantity of Petrol, as little as 2.25 litres of Petrol in a Diesel Saxo D will quite often not necessarily be a huge problem. Experience has demonstrated to us that an amount under 2.25 litres (which is close to 5% of the total fuel tank) is frequently able to be adequately diluted through thoroughly topping the remainder of the tank with Diesel.
It's highly uncommon to come across a car experiencing problems with less than 5% wrong fuel contamination. Be aware that it is very infrequently found - not impossible to encounter. There are actually some cars that won't stand any degree of contamination whatsoever.
    2. Between 2.25 and 4.5 litres of Petrol in the Citroen (5 to 10%) is a 50/50 condition. Our experience has shown us that as many drivers get away with it as those people who don't. When you are deciding on whether or not to chance it and simply fill it up recognise that it is the same as gambling it all on black - you have a 50/50 chance of it working out.
    3. Anything over 4.5 litres of Petrol in your Diesel Saxo D really should as soon as possible be removed since your probability of getting away with this amount of contamination is probably less than one in 50 - genuinely huge odds.
  2. Put Petrol in a Diesel Citroen and drove it: Have you detected any performance difficulties after putting the incorrect fuel in the Saxo D? If so, get it removed regardless of the quantity of Petrol or even the contamination ratio. Continually running a motor vehicle that is already beginning to suffer from the consequences of fuel contamination can likely result in more damage being caused to your fuel system.
  3. Do you want security?
Then simply just get it removed. Whatever the contamination ratio, there is invariably a certain level of risk in connection with driving a Diesel vehicle on fuel contaminated with the wrong fuel. Probable final outcomes of driving on the incorrect fuel normally include the engine not starting, running lumpy, lack of power, degradation of the high-pressure pump, worn out or blocked injectors, etc. These are a few of the most typical Petrol in Diesel warning signs, and should you recognise any of them then stop and have it removed asap.

Do not simply have any jack-of-all-trades to try to fix your automobile. We are Citroen specialists and have got the accreditation and practical experience required to ensure you are back on the road with no hassle or worry.

Petrol in Diesel FAQs

When someone has put Petrol in a Diesel car they have a few very common questions. So we have compiled a list of the most Frequently Asked Questions for you

I put Petrol in a Diesel car and drove it. What do I do?

Answer

Turn off the car as soon as possible and call us. Continuing to run a vehicle on the wrong fuel can potentially damage it. We will be able to give you advice and assistance based on your circumstances

Will driving a Diesel car on Petrol cause damage to it?

Answer

It can. However, if the problem is caught and remedied quickly the risks will be minimal. Of the 1,500 vehicles we attend every month, less than 0.5% have suffered and substantial damage requiring parts replacement.

How much Petrol can I get away with in a Diesel car?

Answer

The safe answer is none. However you might be able to get away with a very low contamination ratio. That being said, we always highly recommend draining anything over a 5% contamination ratio asap.

I know about petrol in diesel, but what about Super Unleaded?

Answer

Putting Super Unleaded, or Shell V-Power, BP Ultimate Unleaded, etc, will have the exact same effect as putting regular unleaded petrol in your diesel car and will need to be drained out and flushed.

Will getting you to do a fuel drain void my warranty?

Answer

No! The EU Block Exemption Regulations clearly state that "the work can be carried out by as long as that garage uses manufacturer approved parts and correctly follows the manufacturer's service schedule."

Can I top it up with Diesel and add some 2-stroke oil?

Answer

This might work on some vehicles in some cases, but in the majority on instances it won't and you risk damaging the Lambda sensors as well as fuel pump and injectors, just as a regular misfuel.
