Citroen Fuel Drain

Filling up with Petrol in a Diesel Citroen is a fairly typical mistake. And exactly what you need to do about it depends upon a few factors. In case you want to find out what you should do about it then read on.
Listed here the most important factors to think about whenever deciding on whether or not to have your car drained:

  1. What amount of Petrol have you put in to the Citroen, bearing in mind that the fuel capacity of the Citroen xM D is probably approximately 80 litres?
    1. A modest quantity of Petrol, as little as 4 litres of Petrol in a Diesel xM D will in most situations not be a significant problem. Experience has demonstrated to us that anything less than 4 litres (5% of the entire fuel tank) is oftentimes able to be adequately diluted by means of completely topping the remainder of the tank with Diesel.
It is extremely uncommon to come across a car having issues with below 5% wrong fuel contamination. Keep in mind it is infrequently found - definitely not impossible to find. You can get some automobiles that won't stand any level of contamination whatsoever.
    2. Anywhere between 4 and 8 litres of Petrol in the Citroen (from 5 to 10%) is a 50/50 situation. Our expertise has demonstrated that as many people get away with this as all those who break down. Whenever you are deciding upon whether or not to chance it and just simply top it up consider that it is much like gambling everything on black - you have got a 50/50 possibility of it being ok.
    3. Anything in excess of 8 litres of Petrol in a Diesel xM D should as soon as possible be removed seeing that your likelihood of getting away with that quantity of contamination is almost certainly lower than one in 50 - extremely big odds.
  2. Put some Petrol in a Diesel Citroen and drove it: Have you detected any kind of performance issues ever since putting the bad fuel in the xM D? If that's the case, have it drained irrespective of the quantity of Petrol or the contamination percentage. Still driving an automobile that is currently beginning to suffer from the effect of wrong fuel contamination will probably definitely lead to increasing amounts of damage being caused to your fuel system components.
  3. Are you interested in reassurance?
You should get it emptied. Regardless of the contamination percentage, there is inevitably some amount of danger caused by driving a Diesel motor on Diesel contaminated with the wrong fuel. Likely consequences of driving a car on the wrong fuel include the motor refusing to start, running lumpy, loss of power, wearing of the high-pressure pump, damaged or bunged injectors, and so forth. These are some of the most common Petrol in Diesel signs or symptoms, and in the event that you recognise any of them cease driving and have it drained right now.

Turn off the car as soon as possible and call us. Continuing to run a vehicle on the wrong fuel can potentially damage it. We will be able to give you advice and assistance based on your circumstances

Will driving a Diesel car on Petrol cause damage to it?

It can. However, if the problem is caught and remedied quickly the risks will be minimal. Of the 1,500 vehicles we attend every month, less than 0.5% have suffered and substantial damage requiring parts replacement.

How much Petrol can I get away with in a Diesel car?

The safe answer is none. However you might be able to get away with a very low contamination ratio. That being said, we always highly recommend draining anything over a 5% contamination ratio asap.

I know about petrol in diesel, but what about Super Unleaded?

Putting Super Unleaded, or Shell V-Power, BP Ultimate Unleaded, etc, will have the exact same effect as putting regular unleaded petrol in your diesel car and will need to be drained out and flushed.

Will getting you to do a fuel drain void my warranty?

No! The EU Block Exemption Regulations clearly state that "the work can be carried out by as long as that garage uses manufacturer approved parts and correctly follows the manufacturer's service schedule."

Can I top it up with Diesel and add some 2-stroke oil?

This might work on some vehicles in some cases, but in the majority on instances it won't and you risk damaging the Lambda sensors as well as fuel pump and injectors, just as a regular misfuel.
