Citroen Fuel Drain

Filling Petrol in a Diesel Citroen is a regularly occurring error. And what you need to do about it will depend on a number of factors. In the event that you would like to find out what you need to do about this then keep on reading.
Listed here are the main factors to take into account whenever determining whether or not to have a fuel drain:

  1. How much Petrol did you put in to the Citroen, keeping in mind that the fuel capacity of the Citroen xsara HDi is normally approximately 54 litres?
    1. Hardly any Petrol, something like 2.7 litres of Petrol in a Diesel xsara HDi will usually not be a big problem. Experience has proven to us that quantities under 2.7 litres (which is almost 5% of the overall fuel tank volume) is in many instances capable of being completely diluted through wholly topping the remainder of the tank with Diesel.
It is quite unusual to find a car going through problems because of under 5% incorrect fuel contamination. Keep in mind that it is very infrequently found - certainly not impossible to find. You can get some motor vehicles that will not endure any amount of contamination at all.
    2. Anywhere between 2.7 and 5.4 litres of Petrol in the Citroen (5 to 10%) is more of a 50/50 scenario. Our expertise has revealed that as many people get away with this as all those who don't. Whenever you are figuring out whether to risk it and basically fill it up bear in mind that it is the same as gambling everything on black - you will have a 50/50 chance of it being ok.
    3. Anything more than 5.4 litres of Petrol in a Diesel xsara HDi should really right away be drained seeing as your likelihood of driving with that quantity of contamination is almost certainly less than one in 50 - really huge odds.
  2. Put Petrol in a Diesel Citroen and drove it: Have you seen any kind of performance difficulties ever since putting the bad fuel in the xsara HDi? If you have, have it removed irrespective of the quantity of Petrol or the contamination percentage. Continuing to run driving an automobile that is now starting to suffer the consequences of wrong fuel contamination will typically cause increasing amounts of damage being caused to the fuel system.
  3. Are you interested in security?
Simply get it drained. No matter the contamination percentage, there is always some degree of risk connected with operating a Diesel vehicle on fuel contaminated with Petrol. Probable consequences of driving on the wrong fuel normally include the engine refusing to start, running lumpy, losing power, wearing of the high-pressure pump, worn out or bunged injectors, and the like. These are a few of the most typical Petrol in Diesel signs or symptoms, and should you detect any of them stop and have it drained right away.

Do not just get any unqualified so-and-so to try to fix your vehicle. We are Citroen experts and have got the accreditation and practical experience needed to make certain you get back on the road with minimum hassle or worry.

Turn off the car as soon as possible and call us. Continuing to run a vehicle on the wrong fuel can potentially damage it. We will be able to give you advice and assistance based on your circumstances

It can. However, if the problem is caught and remedied quickly the risks will be minimal. Of the 1,500 vehicles we attend every month, less than 0.5% have suffered and substantial damage requiring parts replacement.

How much Petrol can I get away with in a Diesel car?

The safe answer is none. However you might be able to get away with a very low contamination ratio. That being said, we always highly recommend draining anything over a 5% contamination ratio asap.

I know about petrol in diesel, but what about Super Unleaded?

Putting Super Unleaded, or Shell V-Power, BP Ultimate Unleaded, etc, will have the exact same effect as putting regular unleaded petrol in your diesel car and will need to be drained out and flushed.

Will getting you to do a fuel drain void my warranty?

No! The EU Block Exemption Regulations clearly state that "the work can be carried out by as long as that garage uses manufacturer approved parts and correctly follows the manufacturer's service schedule."

Can I top it up with Diesel and add some 2-stroke oil?

This might work on some vehicles in some cases, but in the majority on instances it won't and you risk damaging the Lambda sensors as well as fuel pump and injectors, just as a regular misfuel.
