Dacia Fuel Drain

ABOUT

Putting Petrol in a Diesel Dacia is a common error. And what you should do about it depends on a few things. Assuming you would like to know what it is best to do about it then keep reading.
Here are the most important factors to be aware of when making a decision whether to get a fuel drain:

  1. Exactly how much Petrol did you put in the Dacia, keeping in mind that the fuel capacity of the Dacia Lodgy is usually roughly 50 litres?
    1. A small amount of Petrol, something like 2.5 litres of Petrol in a Diesel Lodgy will usually not necessarily be a major problem. Experience has shown us that an amount under 2.5 litres (about 5% of the overall fuel tank) is often able to be completely diluted by means of totally topping up the tank with the right fuel.
It's very unusual to encounter a car or truck suffering from issues because of less than 5% wrong fuel contamination. Keep in mind it is very unusual - definitely not impossible to find. You will discover some vehicles that won't endure any level of contamination in the slightest.
    2. Anywhere between 2.5 and 5 litres of Petrol in the Dacia (5 to 10%) is a 50/50 situation. Our experience has confirmed that as many drivers get away with this as those people who break down. When you are figuring out whether or not to risk it and just fill it up remember that it is just like betting your car on black - you have a 50/50 chance of it working.
    3. Anything in excess of 5 litres of Petrol in your Diesel Lodgy must immediately be drained out as your probability of succeeding with that level of contamination is more than likely less than one in fifty - truly big odds.
  2. Put Petrol in a Diesel Dacia and drove it: Have you noted any kind of performance concerns ever since putting the bad fuel in the Lodgy? In that case, get it removed irrespective of the volume of Petrol or the contamination percentage. Still running a vehicle that is starting to suffer the effects of fuel contamination will probably only lead to more and more damage affecting the fuel system components.
  3. Do you need reassurance?
Simply get it removed. Regardless of the contamination percentage, there is invariably some extent of risk associated with operating a Diesel engine on fuel contaminated with the incorrect fuel. Possible final outcomes of driving on the incorrect fuel include the motor not starting, running unevenly, decrease in power, wearing of the high-pressure pump, damaged or bunged injectors, and the like. These are some of the most common Petrol in Diesel warning signs, and in the event that you recognise any of them then cease driving and have it removed immediately.

Do not simply get any jack-of-all-trades to attend your vehicle. We are Dacia specialists and have got the credentials and experience required to make certain that you get back on the road with a minimum of hassle or trouble.

Petrol in Diesel Questions

When someone has put Petrol in a Diesel car they have a few very common questions. So we have compiled a list of the most Frequently Asked Questions for you

I put Petrol in a Diesel car and drove it. What do I do?

Answer

Turn off the car as soon as possible and call us. Continuing to run a vehicle on the wrong fuel can potentially damage it. We will be able to give you advice and assistance based on your circumstances

Will driving a Diesel car on Petrol cause damage to it?

Answer

It can. However, if the problem is caught and remedied quickly the risks will be minimal. Of the 1,500 vehicles we attend every month, less than 0.5% have suffered and substantial damage requiring parts replacement.

How much Petrol can I get away with in a Diesel car?

Answer

The safe answer is none. However you might be able to get away with a very low contamination ratio. That being said, we always highly recommend draining anything over a 5% contamination ratio asap.

I know about petrol in diesel, but what about Super Unleaded?

Answer

Putting Super Unleaded, or Shell V-Power, BP Ultimate Unleaded, etc, will have the exact same effect as putting regular unleaded petrol in your diesel car and will need to be drained out and flushed.

Will getting you to do a fuel drain void my warranty?

Answer

No! The EU Block Exemption Regulations clearly state that "the work can be carried out by as long as that garage uses manufacturer approved parts and correctly follows the manufacturer's service schedule."

Can I top it up with Diesel and add some 2-stroke oil?

Answer

This might work on some vehicles in some cases, but in the majority on instances it won't and you risk damaging the Lambda sensors as well as fuel pump and injectors, just as a regular misfuel.
